The Problem with Philippines...

Postby poker_man » Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:19 am

For Philippines to pull a South Africa, you have to get the girl who exudes sophistication and class especially in public speaking. MUP 2020 had the best set of girls who could speak, but Shamcey and Jonas ignored the most effective public speakers.

In 2016, Kylie Verzosa was better than Maxine Medina. In 2019, Patricia Magtanong was better than Gazini Ganados. Those were Araneta's mistakes, which is why we failed to have a South Africa moment of having girls consistently at the "last two standing" positions.

MUP and Shamcey, we all know Ysmael (1st runner-up) and Hakerson (4th runner-up) were both better than Rabiya Mateo. Once again, the Philippines is still stuck in the past crowning pasarela and pasabog queens. Don't get me wrong, Rabiya is a great candidate, but she was giving way more of "declamation contest" vibes, only local pageants approve of that technique.

In the age of pandemic, the winner will always talk online. She won't be dolled up in the cover of magazines or fashion shows. Dumb move to ignore the best and most fluid English speakers.

For me Rabiya did her homework
She studied, she is pretty, she is smart
She is working on her accent & she is timid
But over all
She is fantastic

Phils especially Gaffud team can sure transform her to something more sophisticated.

Both are beautiful and well-spoken. Bottom line is CHARM beats SOPHISTICATION in this edition. Clearly, Rabiya edges Bella squarely.

Stop complaining : The Girl deserved the Crown , I didn't see her coming sabi ni Miss Gibraltar sa time ni Meagan Young sa Miss World the Universe rather sabi naman ni Pia with the beautiful heart.. She came prepared and she's like a light candle in the night as she's speaks with the light of the dark night..Parang "Aninipot" she illuminate her hips in swimsuit round. I see here like Miss India in Miss Universe final but I woke up in the Sabah Philippines but not in Manlaysia as DOT current slogan: Wake up in the Philippines.....

Cavite was so nervous I can see her whole body shaking. Paranaque's answer was tad disappointing and her delivery was not great she is better of competing at Miss World). Quezon City was just no pretty enough. Bohol has no spark and sounds rehearsed. Miss Iloilo's answer has more substance and she is very confident in her delivery Plus she is also the prettiest. So no complains about the winner.

Go ahead and watch the pageant again! those ladies that you have mentioned did well during the preliminary interview, that is understandable because they know that they will be asked generic and pageant patty questions and afterall, they know that they only need to secure a spot in the top 16.

Everything is different once you are in the top 5, its not just about answering questions, its about giving a sensible answers with depth and delivered with charisma and conviction. some front runners just answered it for the purpose of answering it. just like what my TOEFL coach told us:

" dont just answer in English, make sure you sound confident, sincere, and sensible because raters can identify someone who have a template on their mind vs. someone who have a solid thought process"

And that's how Iloilo stoodout, she showed everyone that she have a solid thought process when answering a question amplified by her regal bearing, confidence, conviction, and charming face.

Agree winning the crown also is a matter of destiny. The first time I saw Maxine I knew that she will be out best bet for Miss Universe that year. I will be very difficult for any Philippine delegate to win that year since back to back is near impossible and we are the pageant host.

2016 was an incredibly weak batch in Miss Universe. Kylie could have easily performed side by side with Iris, and a Back2Back win was very possible considering how weak that batch is.

Kung deserving naman yung kandidata natin based on how she would have performed that night, bakit natin ipagkakait sa kanya yung pagkapanalo? Pano kung Philippines yung nagrank 1 overall talaga, pero dahil yung reigning Pinay din tapos yung venue Pinas eh hidni mo na ipapapanalo si Philippines? di ba that's the very definition of lutuan. I dont think Miss Universe is that unfair.

Well, Rabiya is definitely in good hands now! I can't wait for Jonas Gaffud, and Aces and Queens to get their hands to mold Rabiyaa!! :!! :!! :!! You know this is the first year of Miss Universe Philippines under a different Organization, and this is the challenge for them to prove something, that Miss Universe Philippines franchise is in good hands, so I am pretty sure they would do everything to mold Rabiya transforming into the best version of herself.

Miss Universe 2022 is like a rollercoaster ride.
FULL OF SURPRISES !!!

The problem with the Philippines is YOU. The competition is not over yet, it just started. Be satisfied with what PH currently have. Support. Negativity will only bring you nowhere. Resist the negative force within you.

The baqlas here are scared of South Africa .
And it’s bordering to paranoia .

A back to back black Miss Universe is very much possible especially because of the Black Lives Matter movement .
But the coronavirus pandemic is overshadowing BLM by a very wide margin .
It’s very apparent in the last US presidential debate ...CIVID-19 was their top priority .
The US oil production comes 2nd with Biden saying that ..in time , he will stop US oil production because it causes pollution ...which means the jobs of white working people are in jeopardy ... again it’s overshadowing BLM .

Anyway ..
The MUO lost a lot of money because of the pandemic and its guaranteed that they want to recuperate their investments.
A new queen from a different country is in order .
For sure they will looking for someone who is more marketable .
Bisnis ang Miss Universe pageant ‘no .
Money talks .

It’s not wise for the MUO to go BLM this year .
The white working class are intensely fighting for their livelihood

The US is greatly divided at this time .
I don’t think the MUO will fuel the fire further .

People need to get over the "IMG era being different" thing. Yes it is different. Yes, since 2015 we've had more outspoken different queens who are not plastic beauties anymore and are expected to speak very well.
Zozi put the nail on the coffin with her impeccable speaking abilities and powerful messages. We'll get more of these kind of winners.
So basically all countries need to train their girls to speak and have a cause. Catwalk training isn't enough anymore.
And that's applicable to all countries, not just Philippines or Thailand.

Any posts that start with "The problem with..." is problematic.

And another commenter said here that Michele Gumabao "is not pretty enough." Did you watch the same video as I did? Michele Gumabao has a beautiful face. With makeup, yes. Without make-up, yes and yes! She has a great smile and can also serve you with fierce looks.

Rabiya is just another Venus/Shamcey taga probinsya scholar na Miss declamation contest ang speaking skills niya. I have seen her interviews after her crowning and she is very disappointing. Nakafocus sa kahirapan niya and how she did her best to survive poverty, ganun na naman ang drama niya, very typical. May pagka all-knowing na ewan din just like Shamcey when she answered that her future partner "should love her God too". LOL!

Hindi talaga siya katulad nina Bella and Billie na very charming at sobrang fluid sa pag-English, na di kailangan maging seryoso ang sagot palagi. Mas mature ang atake nung dalawa (including Pauline na magaling din) kaysa kay Rabiya na very cliche sumagot. Let's face it, nanalo siya because of that Miriam Defensor Santiago reference, other than that, di naman siya pang global speaker talaga.

You’re so mistaken .

Rabiya is very much different from Shamcey/ Venus etc .

Rabiya is a lecturer and she knows how to build up her speech in crescendo and and always ending it on a positive note .

Only those who have done public speaking can tell the difference between just answering a question and giving a speech . She does both which is a talent kasi there’s time constraint . Quick witted ka dapat and knowing that she won a declaration award in high school ..hasang hasa na sya ... she’s at her prime .

Yung ending mo sa speech matters a lot ...you need to uplift the spirit of the audience ... and if you’ve done a good job you’ll generate thunderous applause that could sway the judges .

It’s very obvious that Rabiya had a coach in high school ... and she kept the advices .

Dapat umpisa pa lang .. get everyone’s attention ... tapos you build it up ... tapos you go for the kill at the end .
It’s takes talent and there’s an element of luck kasi depende sa topic or question that you got .

Sure Gumabao is a motivational speaker .
Sure Pauline has a foreign accent at pleasant to the ear magsalita .
But they don’t know how to properly attack a question which Rabiya knows .

Rabiya can actually be compared to Pia Wurtzbach .

Kasi Pia was able to have cohesive thought process in a short period of time .
Again ... building it up ... then at the end BOOM ! ... it’s todas time ..Game over .

One thing I noticed about Rabiya is that she’s very receptive sa question.
She absorbs the question like a sponge then process it .
We’ve seen in with Sushmita .. nag pause si Sushmita before she answered.
In Pia’s case ... she nodded before she answered ... sa body language ni Pia parang she’s saying “ I understood the question and I got this one “ .
Kay Rabiya ... you know she did the same like Sushmita and Pia ..na inabsorb yung question kasi full of substance and with the same pattern na at the end eh andodon ang pamatay .

Handling the question the right way is already a huge deal ... other girls
will be rattled .
But not Rabiya ..not Sushmita nor Pia .

Most girls in beauty pageants say: Be yourself. Be true to yourself. But when Dyan Castillejo interviewed the MUP 2020. Sabi niya:" kailangang maging postive ako." Kailangang mag-compose ako sa sarili ko." para siyang trying hard to project an image which she is not.Na fake-an ako sa kanya.
Peace to everyone

I DON'T SEE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW MUP ORGANIZATION. MAYBE IT IS PREMATURE TO CRITICIZE.
