The moment Catriona won the national pageant SHE WAS UNSTOPPABLE all the way to her landing in the airport of Thailand until the coronation night. Once Catriona took the lead she never looked back, there was never a moment when she fell behind a bit from the race, SHE LED THE RACE FROM START TO FINISH.
Catriona was undoubtedly the one to beat in 2018. She was one of the very few 'Sure Wins' in pageant history, alongside Paulina Vega, Rolene Strauss, Kylie Verzosa, Amelia Vega, and Aishwarya Rai. BUT, I disagree with the statement that 'there was never a moment when she fell behind a bit from the race'. In my opinion, Catriona risked winning the Miss Universe crown when she chose to tone down her swimsuit performance during the Finals Night as compared to the Prelims. Her energy and level of competitiveness during that round was just not what I'm used to seeing from her. I felt that she toned it down too much that time. I dont know how else to explain it, but there was really something different and off with her overall vibe that time, and honestly that was the only time I ever felt nervous that she might not win. I think she was a safe third in scores behind SA and Venezuela heading into the Top 5. Whereas Tamaryn did the opposite by stepping up her finals performance as compared to her more subtle prelims performance. Had it not been due to her shoes piercing her gown, which obviously affected her confidence big time, she might have had given a better response to the Top 3 Q&A. Still, regardless of how good Tamaryn's (or Sthefany's) answer would have been, Cat's Top 3 Q&A was just so unreachable and impossible to beat so most likely Catriona would still have won it.
Catriona did not tone it down on purpose. VENEZUELA WAS TOO SLOW WITH HER WALK, eating up some precious time that Cat had to slow down. She did the best that she could with the situation by slowing down to at least time her execution of the slow mo turn as the country’s name is called.
