ROAD TO MISS USA 2021

Image

Asya Branch of Mississippi crowned Elle Smith of Kentucky as her successor at Miss USA 2021! State pageants were held from September 2020 until September 2021, culminating in the Miss USA 2021 competition being held on 29 November 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and broadcast on FYI. Elle will go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe 2021 competition.

Miss USA 2021 was the first edition of the competition under the leadership of Miss USA Organization president Crystle Stewart. Some of Crystle's reforms for the competition included:

• All delegates traveled to Cancun for a trip and photoshoot together for their headshots in September, with a return of glam shots.
• All delegates brought a state costume to Miss USA, the first time state costumes will return since 1993.
• All delegates were able to choose the designer of their evening gowns, the Sherri Hill monopoly is OVER.
• There were male judges on the judging panel, the all-female panels are OVER.

Our Pre-Arrivals Favorite: New York
Our Post-Arrivals Favorite: Pennsylvania
Our Post-Prelims Favorite: Florida

Any predictions as to how many California statehoppers are going to show up at Miss USA 2021?

A Californian is probably gonna end up representing every state at the pace we're going with statehoppers.

IDAHO:

Jordana Dahmen (1RU 2020):

Sierra Sandison (Miss Idaho 2014; Top 16 at Miss America 2015):

Samantha Townsend (2RU 2020)

MONTANA:

Amelia Beard (4RU 2020):

Jami Forseth (1RU 2020; 3RU 2019; Miss Montana Teen USA 2016):

Naomi Soushek (Semifinalist 2020):

WASHINGTON:

Alexis Ashley (Newcomer):

Mazzy Eckel (Semifinalist 2020):

Who's on your guys's wish lists for Miss USA 2021?

I really hope Victoria Vesce (South Carolina/North Carolina) competes again. I know she said that after last year, she was retiring from pageantry but she still has one more year of eligibility and she's hinted that she might change her mind. She has such an incredible story and with RPM behind her, she'd be an instant frontrunner for the Miss USA crown

Also Destani Huffman-Jefferson. She moves a ton so who knows which state she'll be competing in (she lived in Dallas until recently, then moved to California, and grew up in the DC/Virginia area and has competed there before) but no matter where she competes, I'll be rooting for her. She's one of the most beloved people on the state pageant cycle - everyone loves her, she's drop-dead gorgeous, and has a very strong advocacy for preventing drunk driving after she lost her father to a drunk driver. I love, love, love her and really hope this is the year for her.

I also just love Sydney Robertson (Pennsylvania). She was incredible as a Teen and would be incredible at Miss USA too.

Hands down agree with Destani and Sydney. I still can't get over Destani losing in 2019, she absolutely deserved that title. 2018 was fair considering Bryce was an absolute goddess, but Cordelia was mediocre imo and Destani was miles better. I think Sydney will come back; after 2020, she posted something saying she was proud of being top five "on her first try" (or something like that), so to me that was a hint that there will be further tries. She's one of the top girls I want to see with a state title, I would have even preferred she won Miss Teen USA when she competed.

Some others I'm definitely looking out for are:
Tana Bartels in Alaska
Krystal Harrelson in Colorado
Amanda Torchia in Connecticut
Serena Morizio in Florida
Breea Yamat in Hawaii
Samantha Toney in Indiana
Jordyn McKey in Louisiana
Ashley Baptista in Massachusetts
April Mayfield and Regan Ringler in Mississippi
Alison Bowles and Ashleigh Bedwell in Missouri
Arianna Bustos in Nevada (or New Mexico)
Brittany Netta in New Jersey
Briana Siaca in New York (probably would be the #1 girl on my list here)
Laura Little in North Carolina
Codi Miller and SaNoah LaRoque in North Dakota
Bri Lang and Britain Bennett in Ohio
Allison Drake in Oklahoma
Frances LeBlanc in Rhode Island
Lesha Wincher in Texas (although she hinted she would not return sadly)
Sarah Rachel in Washington

The 2019 teens that I'm really hoping to see competing in Miss for 2021 (not sure if all will be of age): Leimakamae Freitas (Hawaii), Emma Johns (Kentucky), Erica Yvette Bonilla (Nevada), Angela Nañez (New Mexico), Caitlyn Vogel (North Dakota), and Bailey Guy (Tennessee).

Looking at the Idaho and Montana profiles now posted on the website !

I'm VERY happy with the Idaho batch this year. Whoever the next Miss Idaho USA will be, she has some big shoes to fill, but I am very very happy with this group. If I'm making a prediction, I'll give it to Sierra Sandison. She's an engineering student which IMG loves and so do I. Her bio is absolutely flawless, her sharing her experience as a diabetic will be wonderful to people who suffer from the disease, and she's a former Miss America semifinalist. I love her!

I'm also really liking Kaity Widmyer - I love her style and her hair, and her video is absolutely bursting with personality. I'd really love to see her do well too.

Montana is a little more underwhelming. Jami Forseth is the clear favorite, I'll frankly be very surprised if she doesn't win.

MISS IDAHO USA 2021 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

https://missidahousa.com/2021-miss-idaho-usa-contestants/

Idaho's batch is definitely above average for them this year. All four 2020 runners-up are returning: Jordana Dahmen (1RU 2020), Samantha Townsend (2RU 2020), Sierra Norman (3RU 2020, 1RU 2018; 4RU 2017), and Jackie Andreason (4RU 2020). All four of those girls will probably be frontrunners, in addition to Sierra Sandison (Miss Idaho 2014; top 16 at Miss America). Several other girls also look incredibly promising though; Caroline Zieba, Kaity Widmyer (Semifinalist 2020), Katie Tetreault, all Lyssa Schei interest me.

I've been a fan of Sierra's (Norman) for awhile and am rooting for her here. She's a soon-to-be medical student and I always love seeing redhead representation (even though she only became one recently).

Jordana Dahmen:

Samantha Townsend:

Sierra Norman:

Sierra Sandison:

Caroline Zieba:

Kaity Widmyer:

MISS MONTANA USA 2021 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

https://missmontanausa.com/2021-miss-montana-usa-contestants-2/

A very small batch here in Montana with only 10 girls, but that's often to be expected with such a small state. Three of 2020's four runners-up have returned: Jami Forseth (1RU 2020; 3RU 2019; Miss Montana Teen USA 2016), Shannon MacNeil (3RU 2020), and Amelia Beard (4RU 2020). Other notable girls include DaveyJane Stevens (Semifinalsit 2020) and Teagan Gray (NF 2020).

This is honestly Jami's competition to lose. It's really her time for the win. She is a former Teen titleholder and a two-time runner-up, I'll be very shocked if it isn't her, especially competing in such a small state with little competition. I don't know where Naomi Soushek (Semifinalist 2020) is though? Pageants Northwest included her as a contestant on their Instagram, but she is not here on the website, so I'm guessing that maybe the website isn't totally updated?

Jami Forseth:

Shannon MacNeil:

Amelia Beard:

Teagan Gray:

Naomi Soushek:

I want to see a former Miss Teen USA to compete this year. Hopefully they are not discouraged to compete and someone will finally win Miss USA.

I would love that too! Not sure how realistic that is though. I think most Miss Teen USAs end up retiring after winning the crown because they want to go out on a high note, and others just grow out of pageantry by the time they become an adult (especially because some use prizes for scholarship money, although I'm not sure if the winners still get that now). Also, the Miss USA system can launch careers for their national pageant winners, so most Miss Teen USA winners already get their careers launched when they're teens, and don't need to compete in the Miss division to get where they want to be (look at Cassidy Wolf and Kamie Crawford, who are both now TV hosts).

I believe we haven't seen a former winner do a Miss division state pageant since Danielle Doty competed in Miss Texas USA 2018, and she only placed as a semifinalist there (which is pretty embarrassing I would say). Looking at the past few winners, I think K. Lee Graham and Katherine Haik would be the most likely to come back to pageantry. Karlie Hay just got engaged (plus I think her racism controversy disqualifies her), Sophia Dominguez-Heithoff is just starting law school in California, Hailey Colborn is still finishing her undergrad at Princeton, and it's obviously too soon for Kaliegh Garris.

I think your "go out on a high note" thing is very true, especially as the age of "girls who did well at Miss Teen USA will do well at Miss USA" is kind of over. Every year lately, we've seen runners up from Miss Teen USA clap at Miss USA (Angelia Layton & Lexi Atkins in 2014, Brooke Fletcher and Julia Dalton in 2015, Haley Sowers in 2016, Katie Coble in 2017, Tori Sizemore in 2018, Haley Holloway in 2019). I think that pattern of "doing well at Miss Teen USA is no guarantee of success at Miss USA". could be really discouraging to Miss Teen USA winners who would rather retire on a high note.

I've also noticed a pattern that former Miss Teen USAs are just as successful if not moreso than former Miss USAs. Vanessa Lachey, Allie Laforce, and Kamie Crawford are all household names and tremendously successful in their respective fields. I can see a former Miss Teen USA wanting to follow in their footsteps, rather than try for Miss.

That said, I'd love it if Hailey did decide to compete as a Miss.

I've loved Maelia since the moment she was crowned, she gives me Nadia Mejia vibes and I'm loving it. She's gonna be one of my favorites for the crown for sure - although I'm definitely excited to see the whole group.

I've learned to lower my expectations for Texas lately, they haven't crowned an outstanding rep since Ylianna and have passed over some amazing contestants for boring patties, but I'm always hopeful.

I totally agree, Texas is becoming very patty, and I think that's why they aren't placing as much. I loved Alayah (but I understand why she didn't place), but besides her then yeah I haven't been crazy for a Texas girl since Ylianna. Maelia is my favorite of the local titleholders so far too, but I'm waiting to see who gets crowned in Houston. They're always pretty strong.

So Naomi is still not up on the website -- is she competing or nah?

I really hope she does, she's really the only competition that Jami has in my opinion and I'd like to see the pageant be at least a little suspenseful.

She even posted herself that she was competing, I guess it's possible maybe she dropped out for some reason? I'm really confused with this situation. I'm going to assume she's competing until I see for sure that she isn't though.

Idaho is happening now live!! I had some spare cash so I decided to pay the unnecessarily expensive $42 for the livestream. Montana will be later tonight but I wasn't going to shill out another $42 for the same organization for a second livestream.
