Will 69th Miss Universe winner like Catriona 2.0 (MW placer to winner)?

Postby ajsy0203 » Fri Aug 21, 2020 12:35 am

At Miss Universe 2018 (67th edition), Catriona Gray not only won Miss Universe 2018 but also became the first Miss World contestant to win Miss Universe since 1999 (Mpule Kwelagobe) and first Miss World placer & finalist to win Miss Universe since 1992 (Michelle McLean).

Last year Maëva Coucke almost duplicated Catriona feat but she failed to place in the Top 5 just like in her previous stint at Miss World 2018.

Now with several Miss World placers currently competing at the national pageants and the recent appointment of Miss World 2014 Top 10 finalist Julia Gama as Miss Universe Brazil 2020. Is there a chance that another former Miss World contestant will win at the upcoming 69th Miss Universe just what happened to Catriona Gray in 2018?

Asking about "chance", every delegate has that the moment she hugs center stage and comes in as bona fide competitor. Or is that still unclear to you? It is my opinion that ALL chances in the world wouldn't make one Ms U if the other determining factors are not featured in the equation. Isn't that crystal enough? Are you assuming or trying to assert that because Catriona won Ms U after competing at Ms W should thus make as norm? 1969 Ms U and Ms U 2018 are two different personas, conditions have changed far and wide across the spectrum, the judging criteria largely differed since. Any which way I look, your question appears borderline stupid, sorry!

In the 2010s era of Miss Universe there were lots of former Miss World candidates who placed and clapped later at Miss Universe.

Example: (From 2008 onward)
Miss World Placers turned to Miss Universe Clappers: Ingrid Rivera, Deborah Henry (most talked about and hyped at 2011 pageant), Gabrielle Walcott, Nathalie den Dekker, Giada Pezzaioli, etc.
Miss World Placers turned to Miss Universe Placers: Ada Dela Cruz, Yendi Philips, Patricia Rodriguez, Olivia Jordan, Catriona Gray (ended up winning Miss Universe), Maëva Coucke
Miss World Clapper turned to Miss Universe Placer: Flora Coquerel

Proper Preparation and Luck were the two keys to place at Miss Universe.

Of course there will be a "curse" and a "blessing". For 19 years no former Miss World contestant/placer later won Miss Universe, some of them fell short of winning but most of them ended up as clappers.

Among the 5 former Miss World contestants who later won Miss Universe, 3 of them (Georgina, Angela and Michelle) competed at Miss Universe the following year while the remaining 2 (Mpule and Catriona) competed at Miss Universe after 2 years.

4 of the Miss World placers who made it to the Top 3 but fell short of winning Miss Universe since 2008:
Miss Universe 2009 1st Runner Up Ada Dela Cruz = 2 years after her stint at Miss World
Miss Universe 2010 1st Runner Up Yendi Philips = 3 years after her stint at Miss World
Miss Universe 2013 1st Runner Up Patricia Rodriguez = 5 years after her stint at Miss World
Miss Universe 2015 2nd Runner Up Olivia Jordan = 2 years after her stint at Miss World

But in the case of Julia Gama, she will compete at 69th Miss Universe 6-7 years after her stint at Miss World. The long gap will possibly her disadvantage since the 5 former Miss World contestants who won Miss Universe only have at most 2 year gap after their stint at Miss World, unless she might pull a "Patricia Rodriguez" effect at the 69th Miss Universe. This could be also a disadvantage to Sophie Moulds if she will win Miss Universe Great Britain 2020 because she only applied for this national pageant 8 years after her previous stint at Miss World.
