Have you guys seen the movie, Misbehavior starring Keira Knightley? This is based on the 1970 edition of Miss World where people are still glued to their TVs watching pageantry.
Some important notes of the movie:
- Apartheid was an issue then, there was Miss Africa South (represented by a coloured candidate) and Miss South Africa (white candidate)
- It was a common practice that delegates are briefed by their countries on who to interact with (and vice versa)
- The bitch of the edition is Miss Sweden - even though she was one of the press favorites
- Julia and Eric Morley were part of the competition
- Miss Grenada won the competition. Interestingly, one of the judges is the PM of Grenada
- Live broadcast was interrupted by feminist groups saying that the contest objectified women
- It was called a cattle call then because women were measured
Overall, its a nice movie because they were faithful to the actual experiences during that time plus it didn't depict pageants as to how Ms Congeniality showed it
