Sorry to burst your bubbles, but before IMG took over, there was NO mention of "diversity" "inclusion" and whatever political correctness shenanigans that were being preached under the Miss Universe mantra! NONE! It was about choosing the best from the best, with financial gains!

It is IMG who has been preaching and shoving these ideologies to our throat, but look at what is happening? Is this diverse? Is this being inclusive?

Practice what you preach! Geez!!!

Anyway, it's not that our Miss Universe winner doesn't deserve this. But come on! At Miss Teen USA and Miss USA, there were also qualified girls - who had the unfortunate luck of being white - who were ignored!

To all the people who complains every year that Miss Universe is a disapointment, that they place ugly girls, that beauty is not the main criteria anymore: you know you will be watching next year so stop the lies and the hate.

Also, if you want pageant petty superficial bitches, go check Supranational, MGI or Miss Earth. MUO is an american company that understood the world is changing.
Female empowerment is everything these days. "Me Too" changed minds in America and Europe, maybe not in other parts of the world where it's most likely to be very conservative and have a certain image of women. But not here honey.
The world is asking for inclusivity, change and diversity. Pageants have to adapt, especially the biggest one which happens to be an american owned one.
Look at what happened to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: scrapped due to the lack of diversity and change despite media telling the organizers to change to be more realistic with the vision of today's women.

So cut the crap, you know you will be back next year so stop the bullshit and the crying.

Are you trying to insinuate that only white women were crowned during the Trump years? Are you kidding me? You need to review your facts. Black women won in 1998, 1999 and 2011. Delegates of Asian decent won in 1997, 2000 and 2007. Latinas won in 1996, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014.

Trump wanted the most beautiful contestant regardless of skin color, and he delivered. Stop with your propaganda and lies.

Everyday women are murdered by men for not acting or doing what they want and what society expects them to do or only for being women. This is a fact omg. Makes me shock gay men who suffer like us think we pretend to be victims.

This topic is not about men, this is about women being more than outside beauty. This is what we need to expect from people in general, or do you really think it is okay to crown an ignorant person the Miss Universe only because she has big boobs, skinny legs, no belly and big lips?

I guess violence against men is ok. Men have a higher death rate and general lived shorter than women and yet women's health is the one that is supposed to be in some sort of crisis. The same women who yak about having control over their bodies will deny the same courtesy to men (circumcision, anyone, oh that's right, it for hygiene).

As far as I know, Miss Universe have rarely crowned the big boob skinny legs and no belly and big lips bimbo you described...with a couple of notable exceptions: especially in 2006. Miss Universe has always been about crowning a beautiful woman who also have personality and CLASS. Something that a lot of women today totally lacked. Miss South Africa spoke about teaching women leadership. She forgot to add that to be leader, you lift up others, not put them down to build yourself up...something totally lacking in today's feminist ideology.

Oh and a message for gay men. Stop subjecting men with your male gaze. Your are exerting your toxic gay masculinity. Oh that's right, men do not matter.

Jim, it's hard to argue with people who could not read alphabet during the back-to-back win of Wendy and Mpule. They think Miss Universe just started on the day they were born, and to them, even Leila Lopes was white! 8->
But then again, we can see the demography of those who are direct consumers of these pageants, and 68% of them belong to the age 25 to 45 age group! The ones who are demanding changes and push their ideologies to us are the ones who DO NOT even support pageants to its core, and could not afford to buy the products being endorsed by the Miss Universe contestants (read as "sponsors")...
I like our Miss Universe winner this year, but her victory would not have been clouded with doubts if we had deserving winners at Miss USA and Miss Teen USA levels.

Exactly. Miss Universe is now trying to pander to its critics rather those who supported them from day one. Not unlike what is now inundating Western media and entertainment.

Bonggacious_Miguel wrote:Zozibini was under the radar for one simple reason: take all that makeup away and people see an ugly face. Plain and simple.

Having said that, of the remaining three (Mexico, South Africa, and Florida), her message resonated more with the judges, plus we all already knew it was going to be a black woman this year, so her win was definitely not a surprise.

She’s a major downgrade from Catriona Gray, but she has good communication skills and her pageant-patty theme of inclusivity and all that crap is the trend, so she should do well as Miss Universe. I hope the MUO doesn’t underutilize her the way they did Catriona and previous winners.

As ignorant as you sound by calling a black woman ugly, Zozi is actually an upgrade over Catriona. Though it resonated that they wanted a black girl to win, they got it with someone who actually deserved to win. To be honest, it's the likes of Catriona and the previous winners who give pageant patty answers about poverty, all these poetry and metaphors about changing the world aren't backed up with concrete action beyond pageantry. Zozi is way more accomplished than Catriona, and she represents reality.

The problem with Catriona is that she is an Aussie that calculated her way to win Pinoys hearts, she had masterfully crafted this plan of involving Pinoy culture in her hype videos, and it worked. However, it comes across as very superficial, and she didn't really do so much about Pinoy culture since she wasn't really born and raised in the Philippines.

Catriona's lack of impact after winning was very evident, it wasn't like in Pia Wurtzbach's case where people rooted for her as an underdog who wanted to fulfill her dream. In Cat's case, she wanted to take advantage of an opportunity. She's half-white, she speaks English better than anybody else in Bb. Pilipinas, and she got a huge team who can catapult her to the top, she was the perfect representation for what Filipinos believed as beautiful, and her journey was a perfect story for a stereotypical pageant winner.

In 2019, everyone followed suit and tried to Catriona their way to the crown. Thailand was a cheap copycat of Catriona (privileged halfie with memorized answers), Florida Puerto Rican who is not even fluent in speaking Spanish represented Puerto Rico (very similar to Catriona who doesn't actually speak Filipino), the Albanian American returned to Albania to compete, (again, another Catriona strategy). I'm pretty sure Paula Shugart had her eyes rolling with candidates wanting to redo this calculated strategy again.

This is obviously something that IMG wants to move on from. You don't have to go to a foreign country with your roots to take advantage of opportunity, you can be yourself. They want a girl with substance who can do TedTalks that aren't just about current events, but someone who can actually back it up with actual experience, and someone that people can actually relate to, and not just glorify as a goddess because of aesthetics. IMG clearly does not want models but actual people who also have accomplishments outside pageantry and modeling. Looks like they have moved on from rabid fans taking over, they could easily crowned Puerto Rico or Mexico, they could have shut out South Africa by getting Colombia and Thailand in the Top 3 but they wanted to change things, obviously.

DUH. Just because someone described an ugly woman for what she is physically does not make that person ignorant nor racist. I’m sure she’s a beautiful person inside, but she’s ugly outside, get real.

Zizo, Zobi, Zoni — whatever her name is — is a MAJOR downgrade from Catriona, even in her oral presentation. Her responses are so cliched and rely so much on her sob story and victim mentality. I’d like to see her speak up on issues beyond those that revolve only around her default victim zone.

And you can’t compare “impact” when she hasn’t even worn the crown for a week, duh. You’re obviously not even aware of what Catriona did prior to and during her reign.

Next time don’t comment if you don’t want to reveal the prejudiced ignoramus that you are.

Pretty sure, Miss Universe will be looking for somebody they want their story revolve around.

#1 was obvious.

#2 EPIC FAIL. Major downgrade from Catriona Gray. Good speaker, but ugly. Not even plain-looking. Ugly. Everybody’s afraid to say it for fear of being accused as racist. But she’s ugly, and I’m calling it. Definitely not a complete package.

There certainly seems to be this penchant to go to the other extreme when people have gripes (even factually unfounded ones). Yes, now it’s so diverse with an all-black composition. All who identify as marginalized victims are probably now rejoicing at this “diversity”? Ha ha!

All I know is that with Miss South Africa's victory, all the Leftists and the SJWs and the Feminists will ignored and revised history when Leila and Mpule had already accomplished the same thing winning the Miss Universe crown. The only novelty here is that Miss SA here, won with her natural hair, otherwise, she conform to the same beauty standards that enable Mpule, Leila, Wendy, Janelle and Chelsi to win their crowns. So no matter how many accomplishments there have been, it is never enough as some people cannot lift themselves out of their professional victimhood.

Of course. Not because of her supposed qualifications for Miss Universe, but simply because she’s black. Racism is indeed alive and well even in this era.

My long-time boyfriend is from another African nation, Sudan. I’m close to his family and friends and my eyes are very comfortable looking at African people — but I wouldn’t describe Zozibini physically “beautiful” as well (though I like her seemingly smooth facial skin). Don’t know — I guess she’s an “acquired taste; in any case I don’t think I’m racist at all.

As a non-Filipino, I don’t get your dislike for Catriona Gray. I’ve never seen a Filipino Miss Universe representative showcase the Philippines at the pageant even anywhere near as close to what Catriona did: from the fabrics she wore everyday in Thailand to her national costume and to all easily-digestible aspects of Filipino culture she revealed during her countless interviews before and during her reign. Even the fact that she got her hands dirty in her advocacy work FOR Filipinos IN the Philippines way BEFORE she competed at Miss World showed a devotion to the country that not even the average Philippine-born citizen can claim to have engaged in.

It’s obvious that YOU are the only one whose myopic view of nationality is allowing Catriona’s Australian background to handicap her ability to make a difference as a Filipino in this world. Catriona herself did not allow that and went beyond her place of birth and looked to her bloodline instead to impact the universe as a contestant and a winner, and both the MUO and the hordes of fans, including Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad, have rightfully acknowledged her hard work and her place in PHILIPPINE history.

She will continue to accomplish more for Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike, while you remain stuck in your vision of her not doing anything for the Philippines “because she’s Australian.” That is just very sad — for you.

Next time don’t comment if you don’t want to reveal the prejudiced ignoramus that you are.

and what can you expect from a hard core catriona basher =b

Of course. Not because of her supposed qualifications for Miss Universe, but simply because she’s black. Racism is indeed alive and well even in this era.

I hate it when black people themselves playing a victim of discrimination, bullying, not belong to the world and ugliness because they are "black". As if they are not well represented. As if they are not acceptable for who they are. As if they are left behind. As if they thought all bad things are only meant for them. What a hypocrite and so much self pity.

Hate happens to everyone be it to white or black people... discrimination has no rules whether you are white or black everyone of us went through with it or have experienced it, thats how cruel the world is. No one is exempted from it - one way or another we have experienced it. not for being black or white but because of circumstances.

There are so many black people who are well loved and admired by many for all their good deeds. There are so many black people who are well appreciated for who they are beyond their color. They are not treated as if you are second class citizens -nobody... Black people are admired because of their beauty, intelligence and wisdom be in politics, entertainment, academe, sports, etc etc.

Beauty is subjective. Not all white people are beautiful same goes to black people. There are black people who are truly beautiful regardless of color, coz it shines within their face even if they are black, that same apply to white people.

May point...

I hate it when they are playing victim and accusing "all" that they are being treated as "Second Class" citizens where in fact they are not....What black people have experienced have also experienced by white people...They are having self pity that they are not accepted by the society. common...
