Prior to 2014 pageant no 27 year old contestant/s including Debbie made the first cut at Miss Universe. MJ Lastimosa of the Philippines became the 1st 27 year old contestant made the 1st cut and finished in the Top 10 in 2014 while Olivia Jordan became the 1st 27 year old contestant to finish in the Top 3. Natalia Carvajal of Costa Rica is currently the oldest semifinalist and Top 10 finisher in the history of the pageant.
Since 2014 there are 8 women who were 27 years old and above made it to the first cut.

Back in 2011 when Miss World 2007 Top 16 semifinalist Deborah Henry was hyped by some pageant fans that she will end the 41 year placement drought (at that time) at Miss Universe 2011 and also her former batchmates from Miss World 2007 Ada Dela Cruz and Yendi Philips finished 1st Runner Up in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Some of the fans think that Deborah will repeat that awesome finish at Miss Universe 2011 just like Ada and Yendi. All of the sudden, at the final competition, Deborah ended up as a clapper and even worse that a moderately hyped Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup continued the placement streak that Venus started along with Miss China Zi Lin Luo.
Now last December 2018, another hyped former Asian Miss World contestant competed at Miss Universe 2018, this time it is Catriona Gray. Although lots of fans believed that she will win the pageant but some of us think about the "Asian MW curse" at Miss Universe that started with Kim Joo Ri in 2010, Deborah in 2011 and Loan in 2017. But her fate at Miss Universe was exact opposite from Deborah when she made it to the semifinals all the way to the crown.
Now let set aside the Sash Factor and Trump/IMG factor, why do you think Deborah clapped while Catriona ended up winning the pageant? Is preparation and attitude the key of these results? Will Catriona's fellow competitors at Miss World 2016 follow suit and possibly duplicate her win at Miss Universe in the near future?
