Unlike a lot of people, I actually really enjoy Miss Supranational. It is a traditionalist pageant, with a great production and a focus on finding a stunning woman to represent their organisation. If we were all honest with ourselves, we would admit that it is our Queen's beauties that draw our attention, whilst their personalities hold it. Miss Supranational is just upfront about it.
You want fake substance, go to Miss Universe and Miss International, which claim to do a lot of work (When?) with a modern advocacy (What?), or, if you think beauty Queens should just be about substance, no entertainment value, go to Miss World (Boring!).
So, I have always enjoyed Miss Supranational. It's fun ! We can't all be 'Woke' 24/7. Sometimes, I just want some frivolous fun, even if I know absolutely nothing about the winner after her crowning moment. Sue me !
Now, on the eve of the 10th Anniversary of the youngest 'Big 5' pageant, I present to you my pre - arrival Top 20. I haven't over analysed anything, as I said above, Miss Supranational doesn't require it. Here's a breakdown of the beauties I think stand a good chance of succeeding Jenny Kim of South Korea and being our 10th Miss Supranational.
Let's begin !
N.B. I won't include Miss Earth in these criticisms, as it has a genuine mixture of both, with active Queens, a timely advocacy and great pre - pageant activities with a good finale.
Dishonourable Mention
She just won another pageant. Can Nariman really reign as a Queen for two different organisations at the same time ? Not on my watch, at least.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (20th)
One of the very few nation's with it's own Supranational pageant, Japan's Yurika will place.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (19th)
The fan vote will see Wilda place. Indonesia has yet to send a true crown contender to Miss Supranational though.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (18th)
Kelly could be a darkhorse this year. I'm gonna keep my eyes on the Netherlands.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (17th)
Hungary is a cutie pie. Top 20 is very possible.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (16th)
Last year Romania did really well. I don't think Andrea will replicate that, but she is a pretty lady.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (15th)
Turkey's best representative this year. I often wish the Turks would do better at pageants because they are so beautiful. Prove me right, Roda !
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (14th)
Tihana is a bit too sexy for me. If she can tone it down for the pageant, Croatia could do really well.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (13th)
ARomy may be one of the most experienced ladies here. She is strong contender for Top 20, possibly even Top 10 for England.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (12th)
A blonde beauty, Clare is a typical Aussie. They've never done too well at Miss Supranantional, so let's see if Clare can make her mark.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 20 (11th)
Miriam has the Colombian sash. They were 1st Runner - Up last year. I'm not seeing the same position for this lady, but she could pull a surprise. The Latina contingent is quite weak, after all.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 10 (10th)
A favourite, Myanmar seems to do well at Miss Supranational. Shwe will continue this trend, I predict.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 10 (9th)
A super gorgeous beauty from Ukraine, Snizhana could easily enter Top 5. Eye on her !
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 10 (8th)
The African continent has yet to win Miss Supranational. This year's torch bearer is Rwandan Jazira. She has a very infectious smile. She should use it throughout the competition.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 10 (7th)
Another Puerto Rican stunner, this island nation seems to have gotten it's footing back at pageantry. I'm thinking a Top 10 placement for Valeria is very possible.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Top 10 (6th)
A true fighter. It was third times the charm for Jehza. With her cute face, spirit and the Filipino sash, she will do well.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : 4th Runner - Up
India could easily have it's third Miss Supranational crown this year with Aditi. They may have faded at Miss Universe, but Poland seems to love Indian beauties.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : 3rd Runner - Up
More than anything in 2018 pageantry, I crave diversity. Sash factor be damned. Miss Earth gave us excitement and Miss International spoiled it with it's favoritism. A beauty from a small, Islamic nation winning in Europe ? Sanjna could do it.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : 2nd Runner - Up
My favourite to win Miss World Brazil 2017, I am delighted to see Barbara get the chance to represent her nation internationally. Could she Brazil's first Miss Supranational, along with being the first black winner ? We'll see.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : 1st Runner - Up
One fifth of the reason that Vietnam has the strongest team at the 'Big 5' this year, Minh is a stunner. After their recent victory at Miss Earth, a beauty at Miss World and frontrunner at Miss Universe whose positions are yet to be determined, she really could be Vietnam's second crown this year.
Pre - Arrival Ranking : Miss Supranational 2018
A heavy favourite at both Miss International 2016 and Miss World 2017 where she came up short, it seems likely that a homecourt advantage could favour Magdalena. I don't think many would complain though. She is gorgeous.
Thanks for reading, guys and gals. Apologies for the graphics, it was a bit rushed.
Miss Supranational will get underway on the 19th November and finish on the 7th December, my birthday, so let's see how the next few weeks pan out.
