Scots-born, aspiring actress wins Miss Hong Kong title
It was a dream come true for Scotland-born Lisa Marie Tse, who wants to start a career in the television industry after she was crowned Miss Hong Kong 2020.
The 25-year-old took home two titles -- champion and “Miss Photogenic” -- in the 2020 Miss Hong Kong pageant on Sunday evening.
“The past few weeks have been the most hectic, but amazing weeks of my life. I have learnt so much, grown as a person and really couldn’t have done this without your support. I am still in complete shock,” Tse wrote on her Instagram today, thanking her family, supporters, nominators and people at Television Broadcasts.
Despite her lack of fluency in Cantonese, Tse was a hot favorite and managed to capture the audience’s heart with her photogenic appearance and her performance of the iconic Chinese song "Shanghai Tang."
Born in 1995 in Scotland, Tse comes from a mixed race background. Her father is from Hong Kong and her mother is Scottish.
Tse graduated from the Edinburgh Napier University before working as a surgical nurse in a Scottish hospital. “When I was 17 years old, my dad encouraged me to come to Hong Kong and join the Miss Hong Kong pageant, but I was not interested at the time, since I have so many friends in Scotland,” Tse recalled.
The only overseas finalist who made the top 10, Tse was nominated for the pageant by Maria Cordero, a veteran Hong Kong singer.
The 160cm tall pageant winner said that her birthday wish had come true. She added that she now wants to develop her career in Hong Kong and that her mother will also move to Hong Kong.
She aspires to become a local actress under TVB.
