USA
A little reminder that no matter who you are, where you live, or how many supporters you gather, your voice CAN and WILL be heard. A shoutout to the residents of Manassas, Virginia, who dedicated their time and their voices in protecting their community from the construction of an asphalt plant.
See the Miss Earth USA Facebook page for my chat with these community heroes and a link to the local news. This small town outside our nation’s capital expressed their concerns with great resilience to keep their community and children safe as the asphalt plant was set to be built 1,450 feet from their local elementary school.
Utilizing signs, their voices, and the artwork of the neighborhood kids, this community peacefully protested against the potential rise in health risks and environmental impacts associated with the construction of a second asphalt plant in the area.
Congratulations to local county supervisor Pete Candland, and proud residents Mike Coffey, Noreen Baker, Becky Barnett, and Marc Castrovinci.
Thank you to all of the residents of Prince William County for your successful efforts.
