A lot of you know me because of my ties with Miss Earth - and I’ve never quite cinched that title. This year the pageant will be held virtually! (Despite the ongoing global crisis - strong environmental work must go on)
To support me in the public vote, please click the link in my bio and like/comment/share my picture on the Miss Earth Australia Facebook page! Winner to be decided this weekend.
You all know how passionate I am about the environment - especially wildlife conservation. I don’t want the crown for the glory, I want the crown to raise my voice to reach as many people as possible in the pursuit of a greener Earth.
Unshared image from the Purple Day shoot I did earlier this year with @asher.wtf and @anacostamua.
My own experience with epilepsy in 2020 has become far more profound. I was stubborn and thought that because I didnt have any visible cancer activity that I wouldn’t need to worry about seizures anymore. I’m not going to go into detail, but I’ve ultimately learned I need to take better care of my brain.
When people ask me for advice or how I got through my diagnosis my go to is that you need to try to turn life’s challenges into something positive. It helps to look at things with fresh eyes after taking the time to feel them for what they are.
I’m so glad I was a part of this because I’m now able to reflect on the importance of awareness for all neurological issues and am grateful I can use my creative platform to help or connect with others like me.
Purple Day March 26/03
(Shame on me for not posting til now - I’ve needed a bit of a break)
I was blessed to feature in an editorial shoot in celebration of Purple Day - a global grassroots event formed with the intention to increase worldwide awareness of epilepsy and to dispel common myths and fears of this neurological disorder.
I may not have epilepsy but when I was first diagnosed with brain cancer and once again post treatment I found out firsthand how scary seizures are and truly feel for those living with epilepsy - especially children.
Purple is also the colour of the @curebraincancer foundation who I’ve been an avid supporter of for the past three years now.
Thanks @likealionmagazine for publishing our images and for getting the mag out in time for the day!
Thank you to @anacostamua for being a key part of the vision and for being an amazing friend to Ash and myself
And a final massive thank you from the bottom of my heart to @asher.wtf for having the spirit to pull this project together, for bravely sharing your story, and allowing me to share mine.
I’ll be sure to share some more of the magic we were able to create!!
Drowning in plastic.
⠀
A throwback to the last time I shot with the talented @asher.wtf and @anacostamua ⠀
⠀
We created a set of images titled ‘Unnatural selection’ - they gave a taste of the dystopian future we might someday see if continue down the same environmentally destructive pathways. It provided a good chance to reflect on wasting less, challenging ourselves to source outfits from op/thrift shops and not to get swept up in fast fashion. ⠀
⠀
We recently got together as a team again and worked on something pretty special that I can’t wait to share with you all soon.
Excited to try this black bean spaghetti!
⠀
Finding tasty high protein meat alternatives is so important for the environment going forward.
⠀
It’s undeniable that animal agriculture has significant ecological impacts, however if we want everyone to be on board regarding the shift to plant based diets there’s a lot to consider. ⠀
⠀
This spaghetti was affordable, sustainable, nutritious (and hopefully tasty!) do you have any favourite high protein alternative foods?
Had a wonderful time this weekend at the @dooleysclubs annual Christmas Fair!!
As Charity Queen i’d like to highlight that all proceeds from stalls, rides and raffles were donated to The Cancer Centre for Children at the Children’s Hospital Westmead
Myself, current reigning Miss Earth Australia @sanadanielle and Miss Earth Air Australia @sheridanmortlock were invited to host a kids colouring/craft session with Adhika Inc.
We encouraged the children to create pieces about protecting the environment and more specifically to reflect on the bushfires burning across Australia.
They did a fantastic job and came up with some really creative ideas. Times are changing and if we can continue to inspire conservation optimism in the youth then I’m sure we can work towards smashing environmental goals in the years to come.
A massive THANKYOU to my gracious family, friends and fans from all over the world. I apologise for taking so long to write this post. Figuring out what to say has been pretty hard...
I’m not Miss Earth Australia. But I am and will always be an Earth warrior.
I was recognised for doing the most environmental work throughout the year and for raising the most funds for the organisation and Greening Australia (being crowned Miss Charity Queen). I think these two awards are amongst the most meaningful and I am so proud of that.
To me - joining Miss Earth was never about becoming an international superstar or anything like that. It was all about bringing my passion to life, being able to find a means to protect wildlife and the natural world that I love so much. I wanted the chance to speak at the United Nations, to volunteer around the world working for endangered species and to educate and inspire others to believe that their planet is worth protecting .
I gave it my best shot, but the stars didn’t line up. It’s far too soon to say whether or not I’ll be back on that stage again, but my focus for now is to do everything I can to achieve my dreams without the crown.
So please, if you’ve enjoyed following me - stay tuned. Exciting projects are always on the Horizon. I’m not going anywhere.
A little glimpse into a bit of an artistic shoot I was involved in a few months back that has just been published in @volant_magazine.
With @asher.mendigorin behind the camera and @anacostamua on the makeup.we titled the set ‘Unnatural Selection’.
I feel it’s a perfect reflection of the kind of dystopian future that may behold us if we don’t wake up and realise that we really should be showing a lot more respect for the planet we live on.
Plastic now pollutes every single corner of the Earth, we’re seeing hermit crabs using discarded bottles as shells. Squirrels insulating dens with tossed litter. Birds decorating their nests with trash. .
The future is what we choose to make it! Let us go forward making better decisions, taking positive action, and showing a greater appreciation for the beautiful Earth around us.
So my amazing neurosurgeons‘ research team made a new scientific discovery regarding brain cancer @chris_obrien_lifehouse
I’ve come across a few pessimistic people during my fundraising efforts - they don’t like to give to causes if they don’t feel like progress is being made. This is proof that it’s happening!
Being able to more accurately diagnose and monitor brain tumour development with something as simple as a blood test is something that will greatly reduce ‘scanxiety’ for a lot of people out there and even result in tailor made treatment plans for the individual.
I’m so happy to be living my best life despite being knocked back (not down) by this beast of a disease. I truly hope that this also becomes a possibility for all those out there up against it.
We and the scientists just need to keep grinding away to make these discoveries more often and maybe even get that magical cure!

MISS EARTH AUSTRALIA 2020 101
She is the living proof that what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, and eventually help you to win. This 25-year-old young woman attempted to become @miss_earth_australia THREE TIMES. She bagged the 1st-runner up title in 2017 (while processing her brain cancer diagnosis that time), then fell short as a Top 5 finalist in 2019.
However, she finally bounces back as your newly-appointed Miss Earth Australia 2020.
Can you imagine the number of times she must have doubted herself, been disappointed, and mortified by her medical diagnosis?
But Brittany Dickson wanted this so bad. It only fueled her. It only flamed her fire brighter. She used the same losses to fuel her heart to win the crown.
Every failure was a new strategy she learned to become better in the competition. She has grit and now has the massive @missearth platform to tell this inspiring story to the world. May the force of her triumph against all odds be with all of us!
Congratulations to Miss Earth Australia 2020. Follow us @pageantempress
New Miss Earth Australia 2020 has been crowned and she is @brittydickson she is a survivor of cancer and she has competed 3 times before winning the title of Miss Earth Australia. She is a fighter and a strong contender for the crown of Miss Earth 2020.
Most of you have been around for long enough to know how much this means to me and how challenging these past couple of years have been.
Upon reflection, it seems almost symbolic that this was my year - bushfires, floods, volcanic eruptions and a global pandemic.. If there’s one thing I can represent during these times it’s standing in the face of adversity.
This was the toughest competition yet thanks to @sheridanmortlockofficial and @_karyn.x_ I truly can’t wait to get working on some amazing projects with these women and our past queens @sanadanielle and @moniqueshippen
I couldn’t have done this without my incredible supporters from around the world, friends and family. Please get in touch if you want to hear me discuss any specific issues throughout this journey. I may be speaking for Mother Earth but we can all contribute to the message! Excited for what’s to come.
