Honolulu said they were interested in hosting in 2020 after they declined to host in 2019, but I haven't heard any updates since prior to the 2019 competition. With the MUO's current funding it'll probably end up in Reno, Shreveport, or who knows, Yankton, South Dakota this year.

Hawaii would be such a treat for the ladies, but I don't think it's likely because a) it's expensive, and b) gambling is illegal in Hawaii, and the last 12 Miss USAs have all been held in a casino town - I figure it might be cheaper to put the girls up at a casino hotel - so my money's on some gambling town or another, but I'd love to see it somewhere new

My thoughts 100%. When girls compete in another country, it is normally because one or both of their parents are originally from that country and they have dual citizenship. I have no problem with that.

There is a freedom of movement between the states so there is no need for state "citizenship" like there are with countries. So many of these girls are just Californian rejects now desperate to get to Miss USA. It's becoming exhausting. The MUO doesn't care about enforcing the residency requirements and the girls are taking advantage. It'd be different if just 1 or 2 girls were Californians not representing California, but this year already 8 girls are California natives or former Miss California USA losers (Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Wyoming; at least Hawaii is a native Hawaiian who statehopped to California), while at least two others are permanent residents of California (Indiana and Washington). We're not even done yet, and California hasn't even picked their girl; I'm sure there will be Californians competing in Utah too. I just hope none of the statehoppers win Miss USA.

Maybe pageants participation is in decline and MUO want to make it easier for girls to return to compete not just in their home states but other states as well. It seems they unofficially endorse state hopping.

The Miss USA system is receiving a lot of publicity with the amount of girls from it going on The Bachelor. Last year it had Hannah Brown (Alabama 2018) and Caelynn Miller-Keyes (North Carolina 2018), and both went very far in the show and are celebrities now (Hannah was also The Bachelorette and won Dancing with the Stars). This year Alayah Benavidez (Texas 2019), Victoria Paul (Louisiana 2019), and Kelsey Weier (Iowa 2017) are all on the show. I think many states have seen increases in the amount of participants this year since the past few years when it was in decline. Maybe that was the original reason for changing residency requirements, but I hope they reverse those decisions now.

You know, with the increase in participation, it would be in the best interest of MUO to retain this 3 month policy to keep the level of participation high and flexible. But pretty soon we may end up like Venezuela during the Osmel years, where the girls are assigned state and often never even visited it.

New York contestants up! Andreia Gibau is competing, I'm not a big fan, hopefully someone else takes the crown. At least there's good chance with over 180 girls competing. 8-}

180???? Wow don’t they put a limit on contestants? Do New York have local titles or a combo of local titles and at large contestants like Texas?

MISS NEW YORK USA 2020 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

https://missnewyorkusa.com/2020-miss-new-york-usa-contestants/

I don't personally know any girls competing, so no conflicts of interest here; in some previous years I HAVE personally known some girls competing from school or NYC social circles or my hometown or whatever, but this year I know none. The two names that instantly stuck out to me are Andreia Gibau and Briana Siaca. Andreia was the 1RU in 2017, and went on to place in the top sixteen at Miss Earth 2017, representing the United States. Briana is a native Long Islander (so hometown pride on my part and a little bit of bias) who has placed as a runner-up four consecutive times: 3RU 2019, 3RU 2018, 2RU 2017, and 1RU 2016, so this has been a long road for her. I think these two will be big favorites for the title. None of the 2019 runners-up returned besides Briana, one of them probably because she is the current Miss Maryland USA. The only returning semifinalist from 2019 is Caroline Placzek. The batch seems to be overwhelmingly newcomers with some non-notable semifinalists and non-placers sprinkled in. I cross referenced the contestants with the past ten years of Miss New York titleholders, Miss New York Teen USA titleholders, and Miss New York USA runners-up and nothing really came up.

There's a definite possibility that some girls in here are from other states. New York is the California of the East Coast, so many East Coast girls (and even girls from other regions too) move to NYC to begin their careers, with many former Teen titleholders from various states ending up competing at Miss New York USA throughout the years. I didn't notice any specific girl in this situation, but that's just going off memory and I clearly wouldn't know every Teen titleholder who's ever existed. If any of you noticed any girls coming in from other states then let me know, but other than that these are all the notable girls I found. Some girls that stuck out to me based on their headshots were Isabela Adao, Danielle Berst, Dorontina Emini, Lauren Eschbach, Vanessa Harris, Essence Henley, Bethany Jenkins, Skylee Lawton, Kai Lewis, Shannon McNulty, Katherine McQuade, Nalicia Ramdyal, Lauren Reilly, Jasmine Rodulfo (NY Teen semifinalist 2015; 4RU 2016), Laurel Saltiel, Lauren Schwartzenberg, Emmanuelle Sera, Catherine Shoemaker, Ariees Spangler, Monika Stypulkowska, Jessica Williams, and Radhalisa Zarzuela.

I know there are definitely local titles because we have a Miss Long Island USA (where I'm originally from) that sends girls to the main state pageant I believe. I'm not sure which other local titles there are though, that's the only one I've heard of. We're just a really big state and none of the states do any sort of cuts from the original applicants (which in all honesty I think they should).

Hawaii consistently has the best Miss/Teen duos. I have no idea why their teens are always flopping at Miss Teen USA?? They're always so stunning. I hope this girl doesn't get robbed too.

MISS KANSAS USA 2020 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

http://www.warriorsforross.com/ksusa2020/index.html

Finlandia you're always one second too quick for me lol. There's quite a good batch in Kansas!! Three of 2019's runners-up have returned: Faith Tyrell (2RU), Camila Sacco (3RU), and Hayden Brax (4RU). Former runner-up Jenna Kaufman (1RU 2013, semifinalist 2014) has also returned after only placing in the semifinals at Miss Missouri USA 2020 (she is a Kansas City resident, meaning dual residence for MO and KS is quite easy since the city overlaps both states). The remaining girls seem to generally be newcomers. The other girls who stood out to me most are D'Nashai Williams, Elana Tran (former Texas Teen semifinalist), Kirstin Bangs, Aryssa Joel, Elizabeth Young, and Alexandria Black (former Missouri semifinalist and Missouri Teen runner-up).

MISS UTAH USA 2020 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

http://missutahusa.com/miss/

There are some cute girls here, and surprisingly I didn't notice any statehoppers (Utah attracts a lot of statehoppers too, but not as much as Nevada). None of 2019's runners-up have returned, which makes this a very open contest. Notable girls include Rachel Slawson (Semifinalist 2017 and 2019), Hayley Huntsman (Semifinalist 2019), Cheyenne Peterson (Semifinalist 2018), and Maddie Jonely (Semifinalist Utah Teen 2014 and 2017). The rest appear to be newcomers, although there definitely could be statehoppers that I just didn't recognize. Newcomers who looked promising to me are Alexsys Campbell, Savannah Stricklanda, Soleil Iwata, Kimberly Cahill, and Kiki Crum. This is truly anyone's to win.

Rachel Slawson (just me or does she look like a brunette Olivia Jordan here?):

180???? Wow don’t they put a limit on contestants? Do New York have local titles or a combo of local titles and at large contestants like Texas?

I know there are definitely local titles because we have a Miss Long Island USA (where I'm originally from) that sends girls to the main state pageant I believe. I'm not sure which other local titles there are though, that's the only one I've heard of. We're just a really big state and none of the states do any sort of cuts from the original applicants (which in all honesty I think they should).

How can you hold a proper state pageant with so many contestants. How do they handle this? Larry King awhile ago said he judged the Miss America pageant and he hated the preliminaries because there were so many girls and it was a long process and that’s only 51 girls. The state pageant in NY is nearing 200! I think the judges will get bored by the 30th contestant and stopped paying much attention afterward unless the contestants is a standout and make they sit up and take notice and some girls will inevitably fall through the cracks.

Yeah, I'm sure that does happen. 180 is even more than how many compete in Miss World, which is already one of the largest pageants I've ever seen. I think they don't want to have to reject girls for the sake of inclusion, but personally if I was in charge I'd have in-person tryouts, where of the initial applicants only like 50 girls maximum qualify for the actual pageant. This will also make assigning sashes much easier. With 180 girls I bet many of these girls have to become super creative with their sashes.

Most states don't have to deal with this, but then some states are very large and even bigger than many countries. I know Maryland had an absurd amount of contestants this year too, which is especially odd considering it's only the 19th largest state.

Hayley Huntsman:

Maddie Jonely:

I'm going to be a massive hypocrite and say that that, despite my earlier impassioned defense of statehopping, my tune changes when it comes to my home state so I'm thankful there don't seem to be any this year.

Rachel Slawson is far-and-away my favorite, she's one of my top three favorite state competitors all year (and I've been disappointed consistently in that regard, so this isn't a prediction per se). She's such an incredible well-rounded woman, she's so honest about her struggles with mental health, gave a Ted talk recently, she seems very down to earth and funny, and she's breathtaking.

Out of curiousity, if crowned would she be the first openly LGBT contestant at Miss USA? She came out as bisexual recently.

With the amount of girls competing I don't know why they only cut it down to a top 15. A lot of promising girls seem to have clapped while there are some wtf placements in here.

I'd imagine that different state directors have different casting processes so to speak, and I'd imagine that D&D Productions just lets in anyone who wants to compete. NY, NJ, and MD all had huge groups, Rhode Island was more moderate but it's also pretty small.

MISS MASSACHUSETTS USA 2020 IS SABRINA VICTOR

This was Sabrina's second time competing in Miss Massachusetts USA; she previously was the third runner-up in Miss Massachusetts USA 2019. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and works as an administrative assistant and recruiter in the human resources and talent management office at Bridgewater State University.

Full results:
Miss Massachusetts USA 2020: Sabrina Victor
1RU: Jordyn Jagolinzer
2RU: Ashley Baptista
3RU: Johanette Arias
4RU: Caroline Cooney

Top 16:
Lauren Barnard
Olivia Bulgin
Julianna Corsi
Ashley Cunningham
Sarah DeSouza
Azia Hernandez
Olivia Kerins
Ashley Maiolatesi
Skarlet Ramirez
Caroline Sarnelli
Nicole Vicino

I feel very mixed about this result. Sabrina would probably make a very good model but I'm just not feeling her facial beauty from a beauty queen perspective. Also, not a fan of her makeup from her Insta photos, it seems very heavy which I'm never really a fan of. From what I've seen and read, she seems to be a very strong public speaker, which is what IMG wants, but I just am not feeling her in general. I'm not calling her a clapper though, because she seems like the kind of girl who everyone will write off but then will make like top ten and surprise everyone.

MISS OREGON USA 2020 IS KATERINA VILLEGAS

This was Katerina's first time competing in Miss Oregon USA. She previously had been a non-placer in Miss California USA several times, and was a semifinalist in Miss World America 2017, representing California. Katerina is a professional singer and model who also is a doctoral student, studying for a PsyD degree.

Full results:
Miss Oregon USA 2020: Katerina Villegas
1RU: Allison Cook
2RU: Hailey Sturgill
3RU: Caitlen Monnone
4RU: Hannah Patterson

Top 11:
Ashley Bednarek
Brittney Cathcart
Brooklyn Lowery
Emma Ellis
Sara Rose Donahue
Willow Garcia

And another Californian joins the class of 2020. Honestly it's enough at this point, like it's getting so exhausting how half the girls are actually from California here. Oregon isn't a particularly strong state so I never really expect much from them, but Katerina was a good choice. She's a cute girl and has the IMG educational background that does well nowadays. Too bad there's no talent component because she's a professional singer.

MISS NEBRASKA USA 2020 IS MEGAN SWANSON

This was Megan's first time competing in Miss Nebraska USA. She previously was crowned Miss Nebraska 2014, and competed at Miss America 2015. Megan is the founder of Powerhouse Project, an educational and motivational organization dedicated to women's empowerment and boosting self-confidence. She also is a songwriter.

Full results:
Miss Nebraska USA 2020: Megan Swanson
1RU: Erika Etzelmiller
2RU: Samantha Washington
3RU: Mimi Wood
4RU: Tope Banwo

Top 11:
Bree Coffey :-O
Brittany Lakhani
Chayna Davis
Jessica Shultis
Paige Thompson
Taylor Cassady

I think this was a great choice for Nebraska. I find it a bit surprising that Bree didn't win considering she's legitimately been the titleholder for a year, but I think Megan will be a good titleholder. It seems Miss America girls are doing better and better at Miss USA as the MUO is moving towards prioritizing speaking and interviewing skills, so I expect Megan to be a very strong contender especially considering her entire job is fostering speaking skills and self-confidence in other young women, which is exactly what the MUO tries to do too. Overall, I'm satisfied with this choice, although I did love Erika and Mimi a lot too.

There are now 10 former California USA contestants at Miss USA 2020: Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming. The geographical breakdown is four in the Northwest states (Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming), three in the Southwest states (Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada), one in the Midwest states (Wisconsin), one in the Northeast states (Maryland), and one in the Southern states (Tennessee).

Future Productions directs seven states (Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming) and three of their states were won by former California USA contestants. Pageants Northwest directs four states (Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington) and three of their states were won by former California USA contestants.

With 1/5 of the Miss USA 2020 contestants being former California USA contestants, Miss USA 2020 is essentially Miss California USA 2020 at this point.

MISS FLORIDA USA 2020 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

https://www.facebook.com/pg/MissFloridaUSA/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2875666702493518&ref=page_internal

As I expected, they just got put into a Facebook album a few days before the competition; that's lazy directing in my opinion. It's kinda hard to cross reference them all when it's just images (I use the text finder), so if I miss someone then that's my bad. Only one of 2019's runners-up has returned: Monique Evans (2RU, Miss Texas 2014). Returning semifinalists include Narissa Adside, Taylor Fulford (4RU 2017), Sabrina Ramos, and Chrissy Reynoso. Missouri runner-up (1RU 2020, 2RU 2019) Alison Bowles has state hopped to Florida. I didn't recognize anyone else, but as I said, that could just be me messing up because of the format. There are a lot of girls here who look very promising though: Tere Cooley, Shelby Crawford, Kristy Davenport, Kristina Harrigan Davis, Kaley Dignen, Nicole Drollette, Alyssa Racquel Hill, Haley McElravy, Serena Morizio, Anyella Daniela Nieto, Shakera Quince, Dominique Rivera (semifinalist Florida Teen 2019), Karen Robledo, and Jennifer Valdes stood out to me. Definitely a wide open contest in Florida, with many girls worthy of the title who could go very far nationally and at Miss Universe.
