MISS NEBRASKA USA 2020 CONTESTANTS ARE UP

http://www.warriorsforross.com/neusa2020/index.html

There are some really cute girls here in Nebraska!!! The most notable name I saw is Bree Coffey. Bree was the 1RU to Sarah Rose Summers in 2018, and assumed the title of Miss Nebraska USA 2018 after Sarah won Miss USA. As she was the incumbent titleholder, she was ineligible to compete in 2019, but is still eligible to compete now as she never competed at Miss USA. Considering she's already held the title and presumably has a close relationship with the state directors now, I'd say she'll be a big favorite for the title. Also returning is 2019 runner-up Samantha Washington (2RU; Miss Nebraska Teen USA 2017); this could end up a battle between Bree and Samantha. Other notable girls include Jessica Shultis (semifinalist 2016; Miss Nebraska 2018 and top ten at Miss America), Paige Thompson (two-time Nebraska Teen 2RU), Erika Etzelmiller (Miss Nebraska Teen USA 2016), and Tope Banwo (semifinalist 2015). A number of the girls appear to be newcomers; these girls who stuck out to me are Brittany Lakhani, Mimi Wood, and Megan Swanson. If there are any statehoppers here, I didn't recognize them.

The statehopper I recognized is Taylor Cassady who competed in Iowa last year and this year, but since she's representing "South Sioux City" she lives on the state border so it's very likely she has legitimate ties to both states.

I agree that Bree is definitely the front runner here, but is there any precedence of a former succeeded-state-titleholder who went on to win the crown herself in later years? I think the tradition of Miss USAs relinquishing their state is relatively new, but I don't recall that happening before.

The earliest confirmed instance I can find of a Miss USA relinquishing a state title was Olivia Jordan in 2015. She relinquished her title to Alex Miller, who went on to become Miss 52 USA in 2016, because she would have been aged out of the system in 2017. Not sure if it's ever happened before then, so it may be an IMG-introduced thing. In 2016, Deshauna should have relinquished her title to Kára as she was her runner-up, but Kára rejected the title. It went to some girl who only placed in the top ten, and I think she went through the same thing Alex Miller went through where she would have been aged out by the time she could compete again; Kára's successor after she relinquished the title had the same problem too, and neither of them had Miss 52 to fall back on. Then there was Sarah's successor in 2018 who we all know now wants to win the title on her own this year, and Cheslie's successor who she relinquished the title to seems eager to get to Miss USA and I expect will enter the competition again next year.

So yeah, there's definitely no precedence here as every other girl in this situation was aged out by the time she could compete again, but I could expect it to become a precedent should there be more cases of younger girls assuming the titles. Bree may not actually be the frontrunner as Sarah won her state crown when only like 6 girls were competing and there was very little competition, so maybe Bree is not good enough to compete against an actually competitive batch. We'll see next weekend.

Not excited about this top five. A lot of my favorite girls didn't even place, and most of my other favorites got left in the semis. I guess I'm rooting for Andrea, Isabel, or Yesenia for the sake of diversity, but Alexa will probably win.

MISS ARIZONA USA 2020 IS YESENIA VIDALES

This was Yesenia's second time competing in Miss Arizona USA; she previously placed in the top twenty-three at Miss Arizona USA 2019, and was a non-finalist at Miss Arizona Teen USA 2015. Yesenia was crowned Miss Arizona Latina 2017, and is a social media influencer, model, and plant-based activist.

Full results:
Miss Arizona USA 2020: Yesenia Vidales
1RU: Alexa Zellers
2RU: Isabel Ticlo
3RU: Andrea Nicole Valera
4RU: McKenzie Jones

Top 16:
Alexia Lorch

Britni Elbert
Candace Kanavel
Cecilia Rodriguez
Connor Malone
Holli Peters
Kim Artounian
Paige Giuliani
Rachel Voltz
Samantha Landsman :%((

Wow, I really thought Alexa had it in the bag, but I'm happy for Yesenia. She was one of the girls who stood out to me most in her headshot, but I figured she wouldn't win just because she didn't go that far last year. Thankfully I was wrong. Do I think she'll win Miss USA though? Probably not, unless she's an amazing speaker. She doesn't have much of a résumé at all and it seems the MUO wants to move away from crowning the social media influencer type girls, and instead focusing on accomplished everywomen with careers. Who knows though, maybe with some training she'll do great. Good luck Yesenia!! Final note, I don't know how Samantha Landsman didn't make top five; seriously such a gorgeous girl who I hope will return next year.

Overall a good top five. I think Miranda and Brittany are both throwaways who deserve 4th or 3rd runner-up, but the other three have a good chance of winning. Judging by precedent, Kimberly will probably win; she's been a runner-up so many times, it's probably her time now, but I don't think she's the most deserving here. I'm rooting hardcore for Arianna, she's absolutely stunning and intelligent too (I believe they said she's a law student). Victoria is very beautiful but I found her swimsuit body to be far too unhealthy and concerningly thin; if there was a post-swimsuit cut I would have eliminated her, she needs to gain weight.

MISS NEVADA USA 2020 IS VICTORIA OLONA

This was Victoria's first time competing in Miss Nevada USA. She previously placed as the second runner-up at Miss California USA 2017. She is a professional model and gun violence awareness advocate.

Full results:
Miss Nevada USA 2020: Victoria Olona

I'm gutted for Arianna. She totally deserved this crown, the most gorgeous girl in the top five and one of the best answers. Victoria looked gorgeous in EG but her answer didn't actually answer the question and her swimsuit body looked extremely unhealthy. Also, I could be wrong, but I believe she is a statehopper coming from California to Nevada, I don't think she's a Nevadan native (could be wrong). Nevada is a powerhouse at Miss USA, so I expect Victoria will get amazing training, but she will need to gain some weight and tighten up her platform (the final question was the perfect opportunity to talk about gun reform, which would have been a great answer that only Arianna spoke about). I hope Arianna comes back next year. I'm also gutted for Kimberly, this was her eighth year competing and her sixth time as a runner-up; you could tell how disappointed she was, and I'm not sure if she's aged out now. Overall good luck Nevada, you crowned a girl who could win in the Trump era, but I don't know how much substance she has, this could end up a repeat of 2016/2017.

I think they're both pretty but I find Nevada extremely hollow, like the girls they crowned in 2016 and 2017. She seems to be a pretty face and not much more, which is not what IMG wants. I don't know enough about Arizona to comment on her in depth.

I must say I only tuned in on the second half so I missed her swimsuit performance but you're right about her weight, she definitely needs to gain weight! Hopefully with the right training she will do well.

Yeah her weight really concerns me and that could be a big issue at Miss USA, it also worries me as to whether there are some other issues going on there as to why she's so thin. Her answer to the final question concerned me also, valuing mental health is not changing a law (and the question was what law would you change), and she could have easily said something about gun reform since her key platform is gun violence awareness. That makes me wonder whether her speaking skills will be good enough to be competitive at Miss USA. She needs a lot of training. She's pretty but it takes a lot more than that now, and I don't know if she has everything else.

I'm definitely disappointed Stormy didn't win and I thought she gave a great performance, but I still think of the Top 5, it was between Arianna and Victoria for me, so I'm happy with the result here. While I disagree with your comment about her weight - I thought she looked great and beautiful people come in all shapes & sizes - I agree that she probably could use a little more depth to her and her platform. I expect Victoria to place at Miss USA for sure, but she's going to need to do some work before she's a major frontrunner for me.

Victoria Olona was 2nd RU at Miss California USA 2017 and I don't recall her competing at Miss California USA prior to 2017, or during 2018 and 2019; I also don't recall her competing at Miss Nevada USA for 2018 and 2019. I'm inclined to say statehopper.

Five of the last seven Miss Nevada USAs have been California statehoppers. I don't know what it is about Nevada that is such a magnet for California statehoppers. Even California's other neighboring states Oregon and Arizona are getting California statehoppers.

There are now nine California statehoppers competing at Miss USA 2020. Oregon USA is coming up and there are two California statehoppers competing there. Utah USA I'm expecting to see some California statehoppers show up there too. We could have 11/51 Miss USA 2020 contestants being California statehoppers; that's a little over 1/5 of the contestants.

For whatever reason Texas USA contestants aren't statehopping to the degree that California USA contestants do. I think part of it is that Texas's neighboring states Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana have a strong pageant culture so it wouldn't be any easier to win there. The only weak pageant state neighboring Texas is New Mexico but Texas USA contestants aren't flooding New Mexico USA to the degree that California USA contestants are flooding Nevada USA, although that may change since Allie Gonzalez statehopped from Texas to New Mexico and finished as 1st RU at Miss USA.

Overall great results this weekend! Yesenia reminds me of Carolina Urrea and Victoria looked stunning in her gown!

I think almost all the Nevada girls are statehoppers. Arianna Bustos is too, she has competed in New Mexico before (and placing as one of the runner ups).

Not happy about the result for Nevada at all, we are not going to place this year. The thing is Shanna does not have any say in the results so that's why this happened. Kimberly Andres should have won, she gave her best performance ever this year. Victoria is from California, her gown was extremely tacky, her answers were mediocre, and she would not fit well in the IMG era.

Don't know why she wouldn't just stay in New Mexico then. It's much less competitive than Nevada is. She attends the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and only competed in New Mexico Teen, so I think she's a native New Mexican who's just going to school in Nevada. I hope she applies to compete in New Mexico this year then since it's still a month away. I really want her at Miss USA.

My thoughts exactly. Poor Kimberly. I think Victoria will be no different from Emelina or Lauren.

Given that state hoppers have now made Miss Nevada USA a more competitive pageant, maybe the same thing is happening for New Mexico....

so Basically Miss USA is going to be a Californian war. State hopping and Country hopping is so different. Country hopping is more difficult, you have to be eligible for duo citizenship which means you have to be part or fully native of that country. Like Madison, she is part Puerto Rican. In this case these girls ate just California rejects desperate for a crown and have no ties to there new State.

My thoughts 100%. When girls compete in another country, it is normally because one or both of their parents are originally from that country and they have dual citizenship. I have no problem with that.

There is a freedom of movement between the states so there is no need for state "citizenship" like there are with countries. So many of these girls are just Californian rejects now desperate to get to Miss USA. It's becoming exhausting. The MUO doesn't care about enforcing the residency requirements and the girls are taking advantage. It'd be different if just 1 or 2 girls were Californians not representing California, but this year already 8 girls are California natives or former Miss California USA losers (Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Wyoming; at least Hawaii is a native Hawaiian who statehopped to California), while at least two others are permanent residents of California (Indiana and Washington). We're not even done yet, and California hasn't even picked their girl; I'm sure there will be Californians competing in Utah too. I just hope none of the statehoppers win Miss USA.

We'll see, Allie may have inspired some. It'll probably be Texan girls instead of Californian girls though.

There's not much news of who's competing in Florida or California... But I found out she's at least competing in Florida and she looks stunning.

Omg she has the face of a doll. Gorgeous!!! Last year California and Florida (same owners) released their contestants through their Facebook page just a few days before the pageant. I'm pretty sure the Chrisley family had the franchises taken away from them after that whole controversy though, so not sure who's running CA and FL now and if they'll do anything differently. The website has the same design but any mentions of the Chrisley family were all removed.

The Chrisley's didn't do good for Florida and California. Everything became messy after they took over. Just like posting the contestants in last minute and only in Facebook. Thank god if someone else really took over the franchise from them, let's hope they post the contestants properly this year.

Maybe pageants participation is in decline and MUO want to make it easier for girls to return to compete not just in their home states but other states as well. It seems they unofficially endorse state hopping.

The Miss USA system is receiving a lot of publicity with the amount of girls from it going on The Bachelor. Last year it had Hannah Brown (Alabama 2018) and Caelynn Miller-Keyes (North Carolina 2018), and both went very far in the show and are celebrities now (Hannah was also The Bachelorette and won Dancing with the Stars). This year Alayah Benavidez (Texas 2019), Victoria Paul (Louisiana 2019), and Kelsey Weier (Iowa 2017) are all on the show. I think many states have seen increases in the amount of participants this year since the past few years when it was in decline. Maybe that was the original reason for changing residency requirements, but I hope they reverse those decisions now.
