What's up with these constant comparisons between The Philippines and Thailand? I really do not understand what the thread-starter's objective here is. First and foremost, The Philippines has already proven its worth as a powerhouse nation while Thailand is still yet to go through the eye of the needle to win even for just a single crown. It is like comparing a professional to that of an amateur which truly doesn't make any sense at all. It is unfair to both countries to be tossed against each other. Secondly, if push came to a shove that comparisons were to be granted, then the reps from The Philippines must be compared with the Venezuelans or the Americans. Period. This is the reality and the honest-to-goodness truth. Learn to compare countries having the same calibre together. While I must admit that the Thai reps for Miss Earth and Miss Universe are very good contenders for their respective crowns, however, these do not mean that they must also be compared with the representatives from the Philippines right away. For one thing, beauty alone doesn't cut it anymore especially in this day and age. Catwalk, pasarela, or however you call it, doesn't fly alone anymore, either. One has to have a very solid, concrete platform and advocacy for the organization. This is the thing that winners from The Philippines have proven to the Miss Universe Organization, Miss World Organization, Miss International Organization, and Carousel Productions in the past four years. Megan Young was such a very good fundraiser, spokesperson, and employee which generated a lot of charity projects, appearances, publicities and revenues for MWO during her reign. This was the very reason why she was tagged, "Miss World Forever" by owner Julia Morley. Pia Wurtzbach displayed excellent work ethic for MUO and had given symposia, talks, etc. for HIV/AIDS whenever she was given a chance to be in front of the public. These were the very reasons why she became "Miss Universe Ambassador", the first title of its kind offered by the organization. Angelia Ong demonstrated a real passion and true dedication for her environmental advocacy through her blogs, international visits, local classroom tours, tree-planting activities, speaking engagements on climate change, etc. which were very much evident not only during her reign but also even up to this time. No wonder Carousel Productions kept her after her reign. Kylie Verzosa is also keen on teenage depression and suicide as her own personal advocacy. Her love for teaching especially young children is very much appreciated by MIO. It just isn't for "show", mind you, but is purely out of genuine concern for the young ones. Guys, these are the very qualities that pageant organizations look for in a candidate nowadays. Gone are the days when fierceness, sweetness, catwalk divas and sultry bodies were the only surest ways to winning the crown. Gone are the days of Karen Baldwin or Natalie Glebova. Nope, not anymore. Nowadays, the public's decision is also being counted. Why are the Filipinos being tagged as, "The Best Pageant Fans In The World"? It is because their love for their Philippine representatives is through and through. Wherever and whenever the pageant is, expect that the Filipinos will be there and ever ready no matter what. They journey with their queens through thick and thin. This is why they are very critical of their own queens because they love their queens so much like how they love their own relatives. That is passion. Now, let me ask the thread-starter this question: Does Thailand possess all these qualities I have mentioned to be compared with The Philippines? NO! Lastly, "The standard of beauty is not definite; we define it", as nicely put by another Philippine rep. This is absolutely true. What may be beautiful to you may not be beautiful to me, and vice-versa. You may not find Karen Ibasco or Rachel Peters beautiful but I do. I really do. I do not find Chalita Suansane pretty but you do. I find Kezia Warouw beautiful but not Maxine Medina while others find it the other way around. So, there. Enough with the comparisons because at the end of the day, the competition is open to all the girls vying for the crown, not only between The Philippines and Thailand.
