Host city
As per SEA Games traditions, hosting duties are rotated among the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) member countries. Each country is assigned a year to host but may choose to do so or not.[3]

In July 2012, the SEAGF meeting in Myanmar confirmed that Malaysia would host the regional biennial event in 2017, should there be no other country willing to bid for the host job.[4] Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary general Sieh Kok Chi, who attended the meeting, said that Myanmar would host the Games in 2013, followed by Singapore in 2015. Then it should be Brunei's turn but it wanted to host the 2019 Games instead of the 2017 edition. Malaysia is willing to be the host for the 2017 Games.

Participating nations
All 11 members of Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF). Below is a list of all the participating NOCs.

Image

Brunei (48)========= Cambodia (179)========= Indonesia (534)
Laos (201)========== Malaysia (874) ========= Myanmar (457)
Philippines (497) ==== Singapore (582) ======== Thailand (858)
Timor-Leste (48) ===========================Vietnam (476)

Official Mascot:

Good luck to all athletes and make your country proud!!!

When Brunei and Cambodia become the host country do they took the #1 spot in medal ranking?

Singapore has more delegation than Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam considering it's a small country.

low quality games - main reason!

NON-OLYMPIC GAMES ARE STILL BEING PLAYED IN SEA GAMES. WHAT A SHAME.

SEA GAMES ITS ACTUALLY A GOOD PLATFORM FOR YOUNG ATHLETES TO GAIN EXPERIENCE. I AGREE THAT SEAGF SHOULD DECIDE TO ONLY STAY WITH THE SAME SPORT PLAYS IN OLYMPIC. DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS YEAR EDITION THEY ADD ICE SKATING.

[color=#FF0080]They don't understand that we only care about Basketball, Boxing and Beauty Pageants hahaha! And none other ASEAN comes close to us in these 3 departments.

Our passion is in these 3 competitions! And as long as we are MILES ahead in these 3, every other things become irrelevant to us.

We don't even care much about Football, yet we are number 1 in ASEAN.

i think you've misunderstood me or taken my words out of context. Nobody mentioned anything bout philippines, i merely said sea games is so predictable like its so boring and lost its competitive spirit, its always between Thailand and the host country bagging the number 1 spot. Why do you have to expose your insecurities and post philippines achievements here? nobody even said anything bout philippines lol, we do know of philippine's many wonderful achievements like in pageant, basketball , manny pacquaio, to name a few. By the way the picture of the aff football ranking, is the current preliminary round standing, meaning its not finalised. traditionally, in ASEAN football Thailand leads the pack #justsaying, im too lazy to even upload a picture of the rankings but u can see it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASEAN_Football_Federation

The problem with SEA Games is they are always inserting their locals games just to boost their medal tally. It happened in every editions of SEA Games.

Other than that, this Games is a good flat form to enhance the athletes potential to be good at it or even compete in Olympics.

I'm ok with just one game being inserted with medals being limited to no more than 10.

You guys have such a badass sportsmanship. Comparing SEA Games to Olympic. Belittling games and sports that are "not popular" in your home country that mean ridicule your own delegates who are working their ass off to represent your country. I don't understand, do you mean that we have to drop Takraw and replace it with American Football, Baseball or Figure Skating? And FYI to many countries Beauty Pageant is irrelevant and stupid.

Postby NepaliAmir » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:47 pm

I just finished watching the opening ceremony and I must say it was really spectacular, reminded me a lot of London Olympics opening with an asian twist.

As much as I love Malaysia and Malaysian people, they are not being very nice towards the athletes who are there in Malaysia atm.

I saw on fb that Thai Female volleyball arrived in Malaysia's int'l airport and they had to wait over 3 hours to get anyone from SEA Games to pick them up.
Image

Their Instagram post is getting viral in Thailand, I am not thai but my friends shared me today and I was surprised by Malaysia's behaviour.

Same team were told by the hotel they were staying that they don't have food for Team Thailand Volleyball team.

Another Thai Men's futsal team didn't have a pick up bus/transportation to deliver to the stadium from hotel they were staying.

An Singaporean Archery player asked if they had an assistance who will hand him arrow like they do in olympics. Specially as he was a disable person but Malaysian authorities denied him so, he cancelled from playing in the game. There is another thai female disable archery athlete who is fighting with SEA Games to provide an assistance.

Malaysia really needs to get their shit together because as great the opening was, their behaviour towards other countries players aren't good and they aren't being a good host nation.

Btw they have already taken out women's weight lighting, marathon and women's boxing all sports Malaysian teams aren't good at but are still in olympics. =O/

WHAT? They are staying at hotels?? But Why?! Aren't volleyball teams staying in Kompleks Sukan Bukit Jalil?

The Disabled archers compete with the able archers? And they have to withdraw themselves from the games because they couldn't get a person even from their own delegation to handle them arrows? I Googled for this news and found nothing.

NepaliAmir, The Thai volley teams need to sack their manager. Every country in the world had history of miscommunication when dealing with the Thais :%))

Indonesian women Takraw could have won the chance to the gold medal as they were FAR leading the Malaysians behind in the 2nd round if not for the Bawang Putih Bawang Merah act they were pulling. The Singaporean umpire was going to show the slow motion on the tablet but the Indonesians refused to see it. They really need to teach their Tekong how to do the service properly by the rules AND to have some respect for the Senior Umpire which they didn't throughout the match, they were acting like ghettos. They let their own countrymen down. What a drama. Dumbest one I've ever seen. The first impressions from the 2018 Asian Games host. I hope they won't burn the Malaysian flag.
