With this in mind, I find Lady Gaga's to be the most respectful of the arrangement. She's also the ONLY performer among all of them who sang the song as if she meant every word of it!
Whitney's is undoubtedly the most vocally charged and with all the hype probably the most memorable, too (both Mariah and Ariana Grande need training in correct breathing from a voice teacher, seriously), but Lady Gaga's musical theater training shows in the simple fact that she demonstrates that she actually paid attention to the message the song tried to convey.

a rather controversial question: Did Whitney lip-sync the whole thing? ...
Yes ~ Whitney Houston's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" was prerecorded. "There's no way to rehearse the sound of the crowd ~ coming at you," Minor said years later. "You don't know where the first note begins." !!

I surprisingly agree on this. I say surprisingly because I usually don't like all the rules involving flags and anthems even though Ricans sing along and applaud the anthem as a sign of respect even though I'm pretty sure we shouldn't . NOW, I do agree that anthems have a specific arrangement and composition that is made and has lived through time and I like that. I don't need artist harmonizing so much that it becomes a "Look what I can do" contest between artists; because the anthem is not for that purpose. It's like someone took the patriotic composition Preciosa (written by the magnificent Rafael Hernandez Marin and the most famous cover performed by Marc Anthony) which many consider the real anthem of Puerto Rico and suddenly made it a reguetton version. f**k No like respect the composer
