It does happen after a realization. After finding the truth of our being. After conversion. ( A spiritual grace after remorse and resolution to change .)
Convertion is an 'evry second thing' so one has to stay away from temptations and occasions of falling again.
Our efforts has to seek God's grace. This we can only achieve by living a prayerful life.
