"Okay, when I watch a beauty pageant, here is what I want to see:
1) The ten prettiest girls in the Top Ten
2) In swimsuit, I want to see all ten contestants in bikinis and high heels. I don't want to see contestants making 'statements' in different style swimsuits and I sure as hell don't want to see any one pieces. If you have to hide your body in a one piece, then you have no business being on that stage. This is a beauty contest.
3) In evening gown, I want to see elegance. And extra points for extra sequins! I don't want any gimmicks in evening gowns. Alaska honey, your gown was gorgeous...I didn't need your gimmick at the beginning to show your 1/16th heritage.
4) I don't want any more "stories." I'm sorry your entire family beat you every day and then they all died of horrible diseases and you were raised by wolves who put you through medical school. I just want to look at you.
5) I think it's great that you're smart. But dumb girls are pretty too. In fact, who can forget some of the beautiful ninnies who have endeared us over the years. If I want to see smart girls, I'll watch Jeopardy.
6) I want long shots of the contestants coming out ONE AT A TIME in each stage of the competetion. I want to look at them from every angle. I want to watch them navigate 27 stairs in high heels flawlessly in long evening gowns. I want fierce swimsuit presentations.
7) I want the top five announced and then put in that old isolation booth while each contestant answers a questions
Then, finally, I want the judges and the viewers to have one long final look at each of the Top Fives faces..then I want them to consider all of the above and come up with the right winner.
Is that too much to ask.
Now all of you who like the "new direction" can skewer me, but when I watch a beauty pageant, I expect to see a beauty pageant!"
"I haven't missed a Miss USA and a Miss Universe Pageant since I was a child in the 1960's. I've seen over 50 in a row. I can totally base my opinions on observation. The best years of Miss USA/Universe are behind us. Miss USA and Miss Universe would command large front page news as I was growing up. The winners had a gigantic prize package, made countless appearances and was in essence a big deal. Those pageants commanded large TV ratings. Today all of the opposite is true.
Gone are all of the people who understood the essence of pageantry. You didn't need to re-invent the wheel to improve upon it. Has that helped the ratings?
Miss USA contestants were usually college age students with career goals. That hasn't changed, so the over emphasis on contestants being smart is rather silly. Most Miss USA's I've ever met were intelligent young woman.
IMG is the wrong organization to produce pageants. They will undoubtedly run it into the ground very soon. The ratings are proving it,and in this business ratings are everything.
Past years we would see the parade of states and know that at least 5 girls we really, really liked would probably make it. This year none of those did! They are looking for something else. I looked at a photo of the final night judges. You had two Asians, one African American, one gay TV celebrity, and a woman in a hijab. WHAT THE HELL DID YOU EXPECT? Judges used to come from the world of beauty. Modeling agencies, reknowned photographers, and established show business figures. No more.
I apologize to the great directors of this system past and present. Gone are the wonder team of Guyrex. The late Rex Holt and Guy were one of a kind. 5 Miss USA's in a row, and all gorgeous.
Miss USA may be on its last leg. Pray for her."
Me too. I would rather have Sushmita Sen over Leila Lopes...RatedX wrote: They're going back to the pre-Trump controlled era where substance matters more than just physical beauty. Personally, it's better because I'd rather have women of substance (even if they're not goddesses of beauty) than prima bonna bitches.
