BONE STRUCTURE - THE IDEAL FACE

Postby marston » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:26 pm

IT’S VERY COMMON AMONG PHYSICIANS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, BEAUTY PAGEANT COACHERS AND FORUMERS TO SAY THAT A PARTICULAR CANDIDATE HAS “PERFECT BONE STRUCTURE” OR “GOOD BONE STRUCTURE”, BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN REALLY? DOES A PERFECT BONE STRCTURE ASSURE A SPOT IN A BEAUTY CONTEST? LET ME TELL YOU SOME FACTS AND YOU’LL GET YOUR OWN OPINION. I’VE DONE SOME GOOD RESEARCH TO PRESENT YOU THE BEST DATA.

NOTE: I DON’T INTEND TO BASH ANY CANDIDATE HERE, I’M JUST SHOWING SOME FACTS

BONE STRUCTURE IS DEFINED IN SEVERAL WAYS DEPENDING ON THE AREA OF EXPERTISE OF THE VIEWER. HOWEVER, IN ORDER TO KEEP THIS PROFESSIONAL WE USE A MEDICAL DEFINITION USED IN AESTHETICS AND DERMATOLOGY, AND IT’S REFERRED TO AS THE SYMETRICAL INTERACTION BETWEEN THE BONES THAT CONTOUR THE FACE AND THE OVERLYING TISSUES (EG. THE SKIN AND MUSCLES ETC).

Image

THIS SYMMETRY DEPENDS ON DIFFERENT MEASURES ON THE FACE, AND ACCORDING TO THESE CRITERIA WE DEFINE THE “IDEAL FACE”.

1. A MESOCEPCHALIC FACE: THIS IS EVALUATED WHEN LOKING A CANDIDATE FRONTALLY, AND THIS MEANS THAT THE VERTICAL MEASURE AND WIDTH OF THE FACE KEEP A GOOD PROPORTION (IF IT’S TO WIDE OR TOO NARROW, IT’S UGLY )

Image

2. VERTICAL FACIAL PROPORTIONS: THIS MEANS THAT THE IDEAL FACE IS DIVIDED INTO 3 EXACT THIRDS AS WE SEE IN MY BELOVED AND PERFECT DAYANA (I'M IN LOVE WITH HER HER, SERIOUSLY) AND THE LOWER THIRD IS FURTHER DIVIDED INTO 1/3 FROM THE UPPER LIP TO THE NOSE, AN 2/3 FROM THE UPER LIP TO THE CHIN.

Image

3. TRANSVERSE FACIAL PROPORTIONS: THIS IS IN PRACTICAL TERMS A RULE OF FIFTHS. FROM EAR TO EAR THE PERFECT FACE MUST MEASURE EXACTLY THE SAME OF 5 EYES. HERE’S ANOTHER EXAMPLE (IN MY WORSHIPED DAYANA LOL).

Image

4. FACIAL INDEX: IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEIGHT AND WIDTH IN SPECIFIC POINTS OF THE ANATOMY, THE IDEAL FACE HAS A FACIAL INDEX BETEWEEN 89 -93, AS FOR ONE OF MY FAVOURTIE ANGELS NATALIE GLEVOBA’S 93 FACIAL INDEX.

Image

5. FACIAL TAPER: CRUCIAL IN A CONTESTANT’S FACE, IF THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS MEASURE…YOU COULD LOOK MANLY FOR SOME PEOPLE!!, MAYBE THAT’S WAY SOME OF US DON’T COMPLETELY LIKE PAULA (NOT BASHING, SH’E BEAUTIFUL, BUT SHE DOESN’T HAVE PERFECT FACE PROPORTIONS SORRY) AND ON THE OTHER HAND THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS WHY WE LOOOOVE ALYSSA BIG TIME.
NOTE: THIS PICS ARE NOT IN THE SAME ANGLE BUT THE MEASURES ARE TAKEN IN THE SAME ANATOMIC POINTS, SO IT’S A VALID COMPARISON.

Image

WELL…I JUST WANTED TO SHOW YOU THAT THERE’S A REASON WHY WE LOVE ALMOST THE SAME GIRLS WITH SOME MINOR DIFFERENCES THAT COULD BE INFLUENCED BY OUR CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING OF BEAUTY, AND THAT’S NOT BAD, THESE DIFFERENCES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SO MANY STUNNERS THAT CAN NOT BE COPIED. SO IT’S A COMPLEMENT BETWEEN MATH AND ETHNICITY.

WHEN ANALYSING STUNNERS LIKE JENNIFER HAWKINS, TALIANA VARGAS, OXANA FEDOROVA, LY JONAITIS AND AMELIA VEGA…GUESS WHAT?...YES…PERFECT BONE STRUCTURE….THAT’S GOT TO MEAN SOMETHING IF YOU DON’T WANT TO CLAP.

I mean, that people think that goddesses are suppose to have perfect facial features. But I don't believe in that.
If a girl rocks her imperfection, why can't she be a goddess?

Re: BONE STRUCTURE - THE IDEAL FACE

Postby Tsatsabi » Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:36 pm

Lovely thread! =D> Beauty is indeed a mathematical equation and even some ancient cultures like the Greeks knew it, hence they developed their own beauty canon for sculpture representation, known as the seven head canon or the Policleto canon. So in the case of plastic surgeons who worked on the faces of Dayana and Natalie, I like to think of them like the modern day version of the Ancient Greece sculptors, for both aimed for perfection. In Dayana's case, not much surgery was done, and it did not alter the shape of her face at all but it made it more harmonic when fixing the nose... so we can say her face was as proportioned before as it is now. But Natalie not only had rhinoplasty but she had a chin implant as well and her change was drastic.... so yeah, she was made perfect and I am sure her surgeon knew all about this. 8->

Excellent thread! Golden ratio has ben used all the time, from ancient cultures to now... and yes, Beauty is determined by this, even if we don't have any idea of it or how calculate it... Our brain is programed to feel "attracted" by a symetric face.

nice read.....in my opinion i think harmony takes an important role in facial beauty... wether your bone structure or facial qualities is the ideal or not.... i have seen people who altered their look but their face dont look harmonious it's either they look weird or obvious unnatural and that for me is not a beauty.

i think u deserve a "beauty expert" tag more than anyone else in this forum. u give professional analysis without bias. =D> =D> =D> :=p :=p
of course this was to do with superficial beauty only. In no way is this the complete picture of what makes a woman beautiful. i think the facial balance is very crucial--that is how all the features complement each other.
thank u so much~!! i've learnt a lot from ur threads. i now know how to analyze a woman's face :-P :-P

Yes Bone structure is very important.. it is the foundation what the face will look like! my ortho used to tell me before while changing rubbers on my braces that all beautiful & handsome people has a good proportional jaw... if the jaw is bad, there is a tendency that the face will look unproportion & the smile will look weird!

hmm maybe because plastic surgery is not natural... some people will undergo chin enhancement bec. it doesn't look proportion on their face.. surgeons will suggest to put collagen, gels, fillers on the chin area... but one thing most patients didn't know it's in the bone structure of the face that gives us a chin.... if u have a proportion jaw, the face will tend to look proportion looking & when the face is proportion looking that would create a beautiful image & beautiful smile. she/he will look good in every angle!

Postby The Crown Chaser » Thu Jul 28, 2011 3:06 pm

i've come across a similar read before where it used model-actress amber valetta as one with a perfect face. another thing of interest from the same read is the use of babies to determine what or what is not beautiful. according to the article, babies would look longer than the usual at "beautiful" people than those they find "average" looking (or even less, maybe). in fact (and i can't remember exactly if it was from the same print), babies tend to enjoy good looking people; i.e. they exhibit signs of fondness when they see them, like smiling or laughing and such. after going through that article, i've been using babies and toddlers as my barometer for my looks hehe. :-*

Re: BONE STRUCTURE - THE IDEAL FACE

Postby xoaingot » Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:51 am

did anyone else couldnt resist pulling up paint and an on screen ruler to measure your own face?
i got everything right except for the 2 outer 'eye's, my face is a tad too narrow and my ears go flat against my head too (which i don't think is a bad thing, i like it better that way)
yet i still have trouble taking good pictures
i think it's more than just length and distance, is there a ratio for profile view?
