The problem is with the preliminary judges which consists of mostly Filipinos. If you notice in the beauty of face round it seems that no black beauty made it to top 8/16. Most Filipinos prefer fairer skin to be considered beautiful. If only MEO will diversify their prelim judges their will be a high chance that black beauties will diminate the Top 18.

There might be some truth to what you say but to be fair though, we’ve seen the same phenomenon happen in other pageants such as Miss Universe (where the judges are majority Americans) and in Miss International (with Japanese judges). They do a bit better in Miss World where Julia and her cohorts manipulate the results.
For me, the issue boils down to overall projection and performance during the pre pageant activities. I just feel that the women from Africa just aren’t as prepared as the women from other continents though no fault of their own. I blame their orgs’ more limited budgets.
Thanks to continental placements, Carousel has ensured that Africa will always be represented amongst the semifinalists. Sadly, there are fans out there who are highly critical of this method. I myself find it fair as it kinda evens the odds out.

I agree. The continental system is to make sure no African delegate is left behind. But once they are in the top 16..it's anyone's ballgame base on their performance. But base on last year's edition, the two black ladies were right at their own placement. I didn't see them advancing to the top 8. The only black delegate that I regretted not able to advance to top 8 was in 2017 - Miss Earth USA. I think she deserved better than her top 16 performance.
