RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING KAREN IBASCO FOR BEING CROWNED AS MISS EARTH 2017
WHEREAS, Karen Ibasco was named Miss Earth 2017 last November 4, during the coronation night in Mall of Asia Arena;


WHEREAS, the 26-year old medical physicist, who graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, charmed her way to the crown advocating for conservation of energy and the use of renewable and more sustainable sources:


WHEREAS, the Filipina beauty queen’s positive and strong determination to fulfill her dream of winning the title is indeed a positive example and great inspiration to her countrymen, particularly the youth, that
no dream is impossible as long as she puts her heart and mind to it; RESOLVE BY THE SENATE, that the Senate of the Philippines recognizes and commends Karen Ibasco on her victory at the Miss Earth 2017, and extends its warm est gratitude for bringing pride and glory to all Filipino citizens.

RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KAREN IBASCO FOR BEING CROWNED AS
THE 2017 MISS EARTH

WHEREAS, the Miss Earth Pageant is an international event that aims to raise greater awareness towards environmental protection and preservation and is participated annually by over 80 candidates from countries all over the world - including the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the Miss Earth Pageant, organized by the Carousel Productions Inc. in 2001, has partnered with several private and government institutions and organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women), Greenpeace, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), through its enviro-socio arm - the Miss Earth Foundation Inc.;


WHEREAS, on the pageant’s 17th year, Filipina Karen Ibasco bested the 85 other candidates as she was crowned the Miss Earth 2017 last November 4, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena, succeeding outgoing Miss Earth Katherine Espin from Ecuador;


WHEREAS, the 26-year-old licensed physicist and university instructor from Manila used the pageant as an avenue to shed light on the importance of biodiversity and of the much-needed efforts to protect and preserve the country’s environmental assets;

WHEREAS, Karen Ibasco now joins the ranks of Filipina Miss Earth titleholders Karla Henry in 2008, Jaime Herrell in 2014, and Angelia Ong in 2015. In addition, the country now holds the most number of Miss Earth crowns with her victory;

WHEREAS, throughout the course of the competition, Karen Ibasco has clearly displayed the vision of Miss Earth, which is for beauty queens to be “good and effective advocate of worthy causes - particularly the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth”;


WHEREAS, her win will further inspire, not only Filipina aspirants to follow in her footsteps, but every Filipino to contribute more for the benefit of the country’s environment;


WHEREFORE, RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Senate of the Philippines commend and congratulate Karen Ibasco for being crowned as the 2017 Miss Earth.
