MISS EARTH 2017: A POST PAGEANT REVIEW.
It was indeed an ameliorated event to start with. For years, Carousel production has been deteriorating from global pageant critics that out of the three biggest pageants in the world (Universe, World and Earth), Miss Earth came to be the worst in terms of production. But not anymore, Carousel people are seriously taking the right path and is ferocious enough to produce a super arresting show that would surely outshines all of the beauty derby happened just recently.
It started with the introduction of the candidates wearing their respective heroine costumes. Added to the flavor of the opening number was the presence of Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin from Ecuador. Her flirty Latina vibe while dancing and smiling on the camera worked well with the live audiences as well as the Global Television spectators and online viewers.
Then came the moment of truth when the Miss Earth competition showcased ‘transparency’ in the whole contest. Individually called the candidates who topped every segment of the preliminary requirements to be able to penetrate the semi-final spot. These were the no makeup, form and figure and the nerve wracking closed door panel interview.
The crowd at the venue is incomparable to no-one around the earth (pageantry based). The lighting and led backlights were simply amazing. Plus the presence of two international performers and a very lively host. Truly a massive upgrade from it’s previous editions.
Came the final announcement of top 16. It was composed of very competitive environmental advocates that anyone on the 16 faces could win, if you ask me. The most shocking exclusion of Misses from Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Austria and Crimea puzzled the miss earth followers so well.
Then 16 finalists were divided by 8. Eight were sent backstage and eight were able to move forward. The Pageantpedia core team got 6 out of 8. Namely Miss Philippines, Venezuela, Czech Republic, Thailand, Netherlands and Colombia. Except Miss Russia and Australia who replaced Miss Crimea and Austria as our hotpicks.
Four continental beauties advanced in the final 4 from top 8. Colombia representing America, Australia of Ocenia, Russia from Europe and the host country delegate – Philippines who covered Asia.
In the final question and answer round, all of the contestants were asked the same question ‘Who’s the real enemy of mother earth?’. Miss Russia pointed out the abuse of resources, Miss Colombia blamed Climate change. Misses Philippines and Australia shared the same thought that it should be the people who are worth the blames for whatever environmental issues we are facing right now. As soon as the delegate from powerhouse of Asia opened her mouth and ate the microphone excellently. There! She sealed the contest already.
At the conclusion of the event, Lada Akimova of Russia was named Miss Fire, Juliana Franco of Colombia as Miss Water, Nina Robertson of Australia was declared Miss Air and Karen Ibasco of the Philippines won their 4th Miss Earth crown.
This ‘Liwanag ng Kalikasan’ heroine was just added to the list of Filipina Miss Earth winners after being crowned as this year’s winner during the finals held at the Mall of Asia Arena. Karla Henry won in 2008, Jamie Herrell in 2014 and Angelia Ong in 2015.
Some people were not satisfied and convinced with the Philippines winning another Miss Earth title. But if you watch the entire proceedings with all fairness and transparency, then you would agree that Karen really nailed each segment and gave the most convincing answer during Q and A in the Final 4. Accept it or not, but our Miss Earth insider knew that the judges were unanimous to come up with a great result during their deliberation.
Congrats Karen Ibasco, well deserved! Nice Job Miss Earth, truly a Gold Pageant to consider. For The Pageantpedia Organization, you are still with Miss World and Miss Universe.
