After 18 years, will MI beat ME in terms of no. of delegates?

Postby ajsy0203 » Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:31 pm

When Miss Earth started in 2001, Miss International has more contestants than the inaugural edition of Miss Earth pageant but since 2002 when ABS-CBN start airing Miss Earth, Miss Earth has more contestants than Miss International and it never stopped beating in terms of number of delegates but not for long?

Last year MI broke their highest turnout with 77 candidates and beating MGI (75 candidates) and MS (72 candidates) but not enough to beat Miss Intercontinental 2018/19 with 83. But with the recent international tour of the reigning queen Mariem Velazco, the linking to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and strong performance of African delegates. Miss International 2019 is poised to beat the number of candidates of Miss Earth 2019 (85 delegates) if all the potential delegates will arrive in Tokyo next week. After 18 years will MI finally redeemed themselves?

I don't think so. MI has a strict limit in the number of delegates (86). The main reason is the use of bus for transportation. As you know Japan has a very strict transportation law which is being implemented properly.

A bus can only accommodate as much as 45 to 50 passengers. So Imagine if there are 90 delegates, that's already two buses without the staff. That means, MIO needs to hire another bus, which is really expensive, and multiply that to 21 days that it will be used. So, it's not really worth it.

Second, MI strictly implements the "no pay, no entry" policy. And there is a minimum cap with no room for discount or negotiation. Newcomers Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea both paid the minimum fee without fault.

Third, MI does not recognize England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland as separate entries. Nor does it recognize Crimea, although Hawaii is accepted (which is weird... lol)

And lastly, the hotel rooms. The Tokyo Dome Hotel could only block or accommodate as much as 52 rooms for our event. Other hotels cannot give more than that so TDH is the best option. And also, it is four-star hotel with good security and good breakfast! 52 rooms means that we can only accommodate as much as 104 people (including staff).

At Miss International, nothing is being compromised. The welfare of the delegates is above anything else. It is also for that reason why our owner does not encourage competitive events because the main purpose of the pageant is to promote "world peace" and cultural understanding. Cliche as it may sound, but that's just it...

So, Miss Earth will remain having more delegates...

It seems like Mi stands too proud to be seeking for sponsors that could help defray costs to a rational level? MIO tradition or a culture thing, Stephen?

I just read the press release from BPCI about Patch's send off and claimed that "record breaking" number of delegates will compete at MI 2019 despite Korea's withdrawal from the pageant. Also more African nations will intend to compete after South Africa's 2nd Runner Up finish and Madagascar's Top 15 finish at last year's pageant.

OMG... When stupidity really hits an all-time low!

What are we talking here? 1986 edition of Miss Earth VS Miss International ? Dayyyymn! Miss International has long stopped accepting separate delegations of Wales, Scotland and England.... and it stopped in, yes, 1986!!! Since then, there has only been one delegate representing the United Kingdom.

EVEN IF MISS INTERNATIONAL WILL NOT SURPASS MISS EARTH'S NUMBER OF DELEGATES (THOUGH I READ THERE WILL BE 85 DELEGATES AS WELL - THUS TYING WITH MISS EARTH -WHICH IS ALSO AMAZING), MISS INTERNATIONAL SHOULD STILL BE PROUD AS THERE WILL BE A RECORD NUMBER OF 14 AFRICAN DELEGATES - SAME NUMBER AS MISS EARTH BUT MORE THAN MISS UNIVERSE.

Blame the press release of BPCI about Patch's send off. They claimed record breaking 90 delegates but there is no assurance that all of them will arrive in Tokyo by next week.

Another factor is the record number of African delegates at this year's pageant 14 as of the writing since there were 2 African delegates made it to the Top 15 for 2 straight years and South Africa finished 2nd Runner Up at last year's pageant, so there was a huge impact for more African countries that will be intended to join the pageant.

So beating Miss Earth in terms of number of delegates after 18 years might be a "big achievement" after all since some forumers are clamouring to "revert" back to original "Big Three" pageants since the fallout of Miss Earth 2017?

Re: After 18 years, will MI beat ME in terms of no. of delega

Postby Geeyourhair » Fri Oct 18, 2019 3:58 pm

Why is there a need to beat one by one? I mean they are all major pageants supposedly collectively called "Big-4". They are already big per se...all of them. There is no ranking whatsoever. The creation of "big-4" was not due to the number of participants or else Miss Intercontinental and the Miss Tourism Ek ek in the past could have been part of the grouping. In the other industry like Automotive (where I work) there is only what we call big-3 and it has been that way since the beginning and there is no rank among the 3. It will be funny if there are so many groupings big 5, big 3, big 2, big 1.

The control of number of delegates for Miss International is understandable because their pageant is not divided into groups like what Miss Earth is doing. Even in Miss Earth, they also control their delegates to just "90" maximum because of the same reason hotel, bus, etc. I think only Miss World has all the resources to have their delegates reach more than 100. Even Miss Universe I think does not have the money to accommodate a hundred delegates.

Miss Earth 2019: 85 delegates
versus
Miss International 2019: 83 delegates

If only Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan's entry fee fully paid and MKO did not use Japan-Korea relation problems as reason for withdrawal, I think MI will finally beat ME in terms of number of delegates since 2001?
