2. She is not the first former Miss International to aim for another top-tiered crown after relinquishing her title. England's Helen Fairbrother won Miss International 1986 then competed in the Miss United Kindom 1987 pageant after crowning her MI successor. Unfortunately, she came in only 3rd (2nd runner-up) in Miss UK. A victory woud have meant a chance to compete in Miss World.

Miss Teen International is a minor title and a stepping stone for the girls to compete in a major national and/or international pageant. Miss International is one of the Big 5 pageants, so she is trying to make history but we have to find out if she will win the national title first?

I did not say that Miss Teen International is a major title. It was more of a backgrounder on Valerie's pageant trajectory. But yes Valerie is trying to become the 1st to win more than 1 major title. There were rumors before that Miss International 1999 Paulina Galvez (Colombia) and Miss World 2003 Rossana Davison (Ireland) had planned to aim for the Miss Universe crown but they were just that - rumors. In the case of Paulina, the path that she would've taken was to enter the Miss El Salvador preliminary for Miss Universe. If I remember it correctly, a parent of hers or both of her parents are originally from El Salvador.

1. what's the reason for this? The MI crown wasn't enough?
2. if she doesn't win MUPR at the very least, i think it will cheapen her MI win -- she's gambling away her prestige
3. are there rules in place? both written and UNSPOKEN?
4.conflict of interest issues?
regardless these issues, more power to her - if there are no legal issues, who are we to say "nay"?
