You have such a good eye :%))
If anyone is capable of pulling a Cailín, it's Katie.

She suffers with Endometriosis, and is a spokesperson for their charity in Ireland.
She actually had surgery recently for it.

She was also Miss Cork in 2014, Top 15 at Miss Ireland 2014.

Katie Is locked in my Top 10 and I think she can easily enter Top 5.

Individual Profiles - Part 1:

Aoife Carty is currently studying to earn her bachelor’s degree in Business and Management at Maynooth University. After graduation, her ambition is to start her own Irish business either in the cosmetics or clothing industry. She wants to be her own boss and a self-made entrepreneur. Aoife believes that her creativity, enthusiasm, and diligence will aid her in achieving this goal and she hopes to have achieved this all within the next ten years.

Alongside her own successful business, she wants to manage her own charity organisation to give back and to help the Irish community. The specific charity that she is focusing on is Down Syndrome Ireland. In October 2018, she was a participant in Millennial of the Year, which helped fundraise over €300,000 for Employability. This programme trains and educates people in specific employment roles so that they can realize their ambitions of finding a job, participating in society, and living an independent life. In Ireland, less than 5% of people with Down Syndrome attain full-time employment and she believes that this needs to change.

Tracey Coll is currently studying Exercise, Health, and Fitness at the University of Limerick. After she finishes her degree, she hopes to do a masters in Exercise and Sport Science. When she is a qualified health professional, she aims to be able to help and encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle.

Currently, as a Fitness Instructor, she gets so much joy out of helping others feel healthy, happy, and confident. This Rugby star has used her passion for fitness to dominate the pitch. She played against the first ever women’s Barbarian team. The Barbarians are a selection of the best rugby players from all over the world and Tracey played for her province Munster. Not only was it her first ever senior match, it was such a big movement for women’s sport: it was the first ever women’s game played in the beautiful Thomond Park against the first ever female Barbarians team!

Additionally, she is very interested in getting involved with the Community Crisis Response Team, which is an organization that uses trained volunteers to travel to those in a suicidal distress 356 days of the year. She is encouraged and touched by the incredible volunteers around the city of Limerick that spend every evening looking out for people in need. These volunteers have saved the lives of so many in Limerick and the work they do is incredible.

Melanie Delaney, returning Top 5 Finalist at MUI 2018, this ambitious, compassionate, and outgoing woman is an Oncology Pharmaceutical Technician, at St. Vincent's Private Hospital where she makes chemotherapy for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

She has overcome dyslexia to pursue a career in the male dominated medical and healthcare sector. When she was in primary school she was told she had quite severe dyslexia that was having a huge impact on her school and personal life. Being a child with dyslexia and spending most of her childhood and all her adolescent years in education made school life extremely challenging for her. She remembers asking her parents if she would ever be able to read or write because of how much she struggled in the early years of primary school.

However challenging she found things, she never looked at having dyslexia as something that would hold her back in life, but rather she saw it as a challenge she had to face and overcome. “We all face challenges in life, it’s overcoming these challenges that make us who we are.”

Today, she now makes lifesaving/life-prolonging drug treatments for cancer patients every day. This is something she could never have imagined she would be able to do when she was a little girl and therefore is very proud to achieve the success she has.

Alexandra Doyle just finished her second year as a business student at UCD while she concurrently works in the finance department as an Administrator and Accounts Assistant for an insurance company.

Don’t let her beauty fool you; she is a rugby star that was on the Leinster U19 Development Girls team, captained her touch team, and has played in the highest women’s rugby league in Ireland. Naturally, she is very passionate about organisations that support women in sport.

This year an initiative was launched by the Federation of Irish Sport, called ‘20x20’. Their aim is to increase women’s sport coverage, attendance levels, and increase women’s/girl’s participation at sporting events by 20% by 2020. She believes that being active is extremely important and, in Ireland, so many women are turned off by playing sport because they are told ‘It will make them large and more man like.’ The impact of this initiative will hopefully show younger girls and women that women’s sport is something to try and to be celebrated.

Hollie Hersey is a multi-talented Fashion supervisor for Hugo Boss and a musician that can play the piano, flute, and guitar.

Throughout her life, she has struggled with anxiety and panic attacks but was able to overcome what could have been a crippling condition. This enabled her to realise and pursue her life ambitions including: living independently, traveling abroad, and representing her hometown in The Rose of Roscommon 2016.

Due to her experiences, she is dedicated to raising awareness for mental health. She notes that in 2018, Ireland was reported to have one of the highest rates of mental health illness in Europe, therefore it is so important that, as a small country, we work to help one another speak up and open up about mental health problems. She believes that listening to one another with our ears, eyes, and heart can go a long way.

Through her volunteering alongside a music therapist, she has helped people with problems including: depression, Alzheimer’s, intellectual disabilities, neurological and cognitive disorders. Hollie believes it has changed her outlook on life. Not only has she witnessed the power of music as a therapy, but it has definitely helped her become a very positive person.

Ireland is clearly getting it under IMG.

I think with Fionnghuala, Ireland could be VERY competitive. The overall package!

That gorgeous smart girl who is currently working for NASA pleeeease. I have had this vision before of seeing a girl employed at NASA that would make a splash in Miss Universe.
Majority of pageant critics firing scathingly remarks and unleashing vilest of comments to some candidates, ironically, are not even beautiful themselves aesthetically and worst characterwise.

Our national director seems to be completely in sync with IMG. And she is 100% behind her girls.

Fig is definitely the frontrunner, but as I said on the 1st page, being the frontrunner doesn't mean winning Miss Universe Ireland.

Individual Profiles - Part 2:

Lynley G. has a Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and is currently working on the social work team at Musgrave Hospital. Her career ambition is to be a Clinical Psychologist Doctorate where she hopes to make a difference in people’s lives.

Over the years, Lynley has travelled alone around South East Asia (including driving a motorbike with thousands of other motorbike commuters!) for several months and even lived in Australia for a short period.

Her MUI 2019 platform is the Meningitis Research Foundation which is dear to her heart as her dad was diagnosed with Meningitis when she was only 10 years old. Several times over the years, her family and her have collected for the charity several times to raise awareness.

She has a passion for making a difference and being a positive influence on others and she would love to make Ireland proud as a global ambassador.

Katie O'Donoghue has recently completed a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in French and Economics at University College Cork. Katie would like to pursue a diploma or similar qualification in Digital Marketing with the hopes of eventually working for a Global company, promoting the brand and developing new ideas for the firm.

Whilst she is a keen enthusiast of the ‘keep fit’ lifestyle, she also likes to balance things out with baking in her spare time.

Over the past couple of years, Katie has participated in various types of charity work in Ireland between fundraising for the Cork Mental Health Foundation and Marymount Hospice – a charity that she has a renewed appreciation for, since her grandfather recently passed away there. She would like to also work with the Irish Cancer Society, as well as, the Endometriosis Association of Ireland. Endometriosis has affected a few people in her life and she would like to raise more awareness amongst younger women about the signs and symptoms of this condition.

Megan O'Malley wrote and performed in her first original play in January 2018. It was called HOME and dealt with the eighth amendment and sexual consent.

It has not been, however, an easy road for Megan to feel comfortable on stage. She spent years feeling ashamed of her appearance. Megan tried modelling, but constantly faced contempt for her size – a UK 10. One company even refused to pay her because of her measurements, even after the photos were released online and received positive responses. But she is dedicated to her craft and once lived in a room with no windows, so she could pursue acting and modelling.

After self-reflection, Megan now sees herself as confident and beautiful. She has also been subject to every fad diet going and was able to purchase fat loss shakes and teas while still a teenager and even got advice from the woman selling them. She does not believe any fat loss products should be able to be sold to children and she is campaigning that an age limit be set as these products are usually just strong laxatives. She wants to share her story and help other women overcome their lack of self-confidence.

Peace Olaniyi is a fun and creative woman who works as an Architectural Technologist at Modubuild Kilkenny utilising her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Technology. Ending up in her current dream job has been a long journey since she was just 7 years old.

When she and her family immigrated to Ireland from Nigeria in 2001, Peace remembers arriving and being in awe of all the construction, buildings, and structures of Dublin. It was like nothing she had ever seen or experienced before. It was from that moment that she wanted to someday add to the city skyline as an architect!

Peace’s social cause that means the most to her is the National Women’s Council Ireland. The organisation has been empowering women for over 40 years by providing women across Ireland with the necessary skills and opportunities to have their voices heard. She would like to share with every woman in the programme about her experience in education and the workforce - thus, encouraging them to achieve their full potential.

Sarah Cunningham has a BSc (Hons) in Business Studies and is currently completing a MSc in Communication and Public Relations with Advertising - both from Ulster University. She is extremely proud of achieving a 2:1 in her undergraduate degree given that she is a ‘first generation student’ within her family. Without this achievement, she feels she wouldn’t be undertaking her master’s degree which is providing her with great in-depth knowledge on many fundamental areas of running her own business in the future.

Last year, she was part of a relay team that ran the Belfast City Marathon in aid of PIPS Charity. PIPS is a Belfast based suicide prevention charity that holds a close place to her heart. She ran the 7-mile leg (the longest leg) of the relay which was a massive achievement for herself as she is not a natural runner. Together, the team raised £640.00, smashing their £500 target.

Sarah is extremely passionate about protecting young girls’ self-esteem, that is put under threat by the social pressures that they can be exposed to online access. Social media-linked depression is becoming increasingly more common in teenage girls in Ireland something she understands as she feels the pressures of having to look a certain way when scrolling through social media.

Individual Profiles - Part 3:

Shona H, a bubbly and positive primary school teacher, aims to teach her children to the best of her ability and to have them leave her year happy and optimistic about future possibilities. Shona works hard to teach 30+ students everyday and give them all equal attention.

Even though this story has a happy ending, achieving her dream of being a teacher was extremely difficult and tested her dedication. In secondary school she fell short by the absolute minimum of the points required to enter teaching. This was a very trying time as she was faced with a difficult decision to make. She could choose a course that she was not as keen on or repeat the whole year again in the hopes she would achieve these points the following year.

Dedicated to her chosen field, she decided to repeat, yet also applied for her papers to be rechecked. Thankfully, one of her papers was miscalculated and she succeeded in achieving enough points. After the rechecks, she only had about four days to leave school, source accommodation in Dublin, and begin college three months after everyone else. This was an extremely daunting time as everyone had already established friendships and gotten used to college life. Despite a difficult few weeks of finding her feet, she soon settled in and never looked back!

Qichen Hu is currently a part-time Model and a full-time college student at DCU majoring in Environmental Science and Health. She is determined to use her education to learn the skills necessary to do her part to combat one of the biggest issues she feels humanity faces right now, which is Climate Change. She feels that Global Warming has always been a major problem and that it has gotten progressively worse in the recent years. She feels she is very lucky to have parents that raised her in a relatively sustainable way and educated her on environmental impact.

Organizations that fight for the planet have always been very close to Qichen’s heart and she wants to continue to work with the likes of Irish Wildlife Trust, WWF, WATER.ORG, Ocean Conservancy, Rainforest Action Network, and Wild Foundation. She was born in an industrialized town in China and every now and then her parents would bring her back to her hometown. On these trips, she witnessed the effects of human activity on the environment. She feels we have brought our planet to the stage it is at today and it is up to us to nurse it back to health before it becomes irreversible.

Many think the world is too big to take action as individuals, but she believes it only takes one person to make a difference!

Karen McShea is an outgoing, positive, and caring woman who works as a qualified beautician and makeup artist. She has ambitions of finding success in the modelling industry and using the connections to build her own business running a makeup studio.

Her biggest obstacle in life has been self-love. Because of her height, she struggled with confidence in always being the tall girl that stood out and was ridiculed by her peers. All she wanted was to fit in and be ‘normal.’ It has taken her a long time to own her height and be proud of who she is. There was a time that she would not dream of wearing high heels in fear that she would stand out more in a crowd. Today, you see a woman that loves herself and loves buying and wearing all the beautiful shoes she wants!

She is focused on Aware Ireland as she believes mental health is something that affects people of all ages and that everyone suffers with some kind of mental health issues in their life. She aims to see children in Ireland taught how to care for their mental and overall health as it is a very important part of life especially with the pressures of modern life and social media

Kaylyn McGrath is an accomplished musician that has been singing and playing the piano since she was 5 years old. She states her strongest talent is having a good ear for picking up music and being able to play piano from memory!

She completed all her formal piano and signing grades by the time she was 16 which she used the extra time to put her talents into productive action for herself and her local area. She has raised money for different causes including taking part in local voluntary productions of “Les Misérables” and “Oliver Twist”, which travelled to Manchester and Dublin raising thousands for her local Mayo Hospice. She is also a member of a local choir which has organized numerous concerts and events to raise money for the restoration of her local cathedral, for her local schools, and her local Saint Vincent de Paul organisation. She has even had the opportunity to share her talents at the recent Papal visit in Phoenix Park.

Recently, she has established her own piano teaching practice - currently teaching 5 individuals private piano lessons - which she says is one of her most enjoyable achievements.

Individual Profiles - Part 4:

Adrienne Mullen is a multi-talented woman who loves to sing, play guitar, model, swim, and be creative. She has even auditioned for the X Factor, which she claims to be the craziest thing she has ever done.

She has a soft spot for children’s charities which is derived from her own life experience. When she was only one-years-old, she pulled a pot of scolding tea all over her body and was rushed to Crumlin Hospital where she was immediately operated on and remained in the ICU for the next three weeks. She credits the unbelievable staff in nursing her back to health and working so hard to ensure that she lived a normal life afterwards. The whole experience made her realise that not ever child has an ending as fortunate as hers, so she is working hard to make that a reality for all in Ireland.

Jo Quinn is a brave, considerate, and positive woman who works as a model and loves to dance and act.

She is extremely proud of the fact that she stopped self-harming herself three years ago. It was a very difficult thing for her to overcome as it was her coping mechanism when things got difficult. She was able to dig deep and find the tenacity and strength to get better and is super proud of the woman you see today.

Today, she wants to use Miss Universe Ireland to make her voice louder and help the people crying out for more accessible mental health services. She believes that nobody should be on a waiting list since there are people at high risk that don’t have friends or family to help. She states that more than one person is committing suicide per day in Ireland. “I have been there and thankfully I had the strength to overcome it, but so many people don’t get the help to see just how good things get.”

Niamh Myles comes from a farming background and has a passion for animals including hosting hens, ducks, dogs, and a micro pig!

She graduated a 2:1 degree in 2016 with a Bachelor of International Arts in Economics and Portuguese. As part of her studies, she spent a year living abroad in Portugal which was a big deal for her given her young age of 20 years old and that she was the first and only student at the time going to the country alone. She says it was the best experience of her life where she learned so much about herself during that year while forging friendships for life.

Mental Health Ireland is the charity of her choice. The organisation and mission mean a lot to her as she has personally struggled with mental health issues in the past. In 2016, she lost her cousin and the death put things in perspective for her. She feels that everyone has the right to be as happy as can be in life and that we should all be supported in reaching our full potential. Niamh will be running the women's mini marathon in aid of Mental Health Ireland and hosting her annual fundraiser in advance of the marathon.

Jane Hannah is a sailing instructor at the Lough Derg Yacht Club and loves to be out on the Irish Sea. She has won many sailing regattas, Nationals, and has achieved the most improved sailor award in the Worlds.

During the Mirror World Sailing Championships in 2012, she was the youngest helm at the age of only 11 years old! During that day, the wind reached up to 40 knots and as a result many of the world’s best sailors elected not to compete. However, she was determined and made the decision to go out and compete. During the second race, half the fleet capsized and had to be rescued including her boat. She claims that this was the craziest thing she has ever done because the following day she decided to go out in the same weather conditions again; competing against the top sailors in the world and placing top 30 out of 120 boats.

In addition to being an expert yachtswoman, she is an awarded artist and dancer. She received a merit in the Texaco Art competition in 2017 and has won many Credit Union art competitions. Furthermore, she has won multiple Irish Dancing competitions such as Munster’s and placed at Nationals.

Angelique Kilgallon is an inspiring entrepreneur that is hoping to set up a business that will be involved in the beauty industry. She feels that people don't understand the concept of why women wear makeup. She believes it is for confidence and for feeling beautiful in your own skin and body. She loves witnessing the transformation of people after seeing a make-up artist - they come out confident and proud of who they are.

Angelique is also passionate about establishing youth cafes in Ireland that are open to the public that suffer from domestic violence. Her dedication is resulting from her own personal experiences with the subject and the lack of services she felt were available to her during her childhood. She wants to establish campaigns and push social media to make domestic violence issues, services, and helplines more aware in Ireland. She would like to see websites, live chat lines, and her cafes become sanctuaries for those abused.

Thanks, buddy.

I don't know about winning, becuase, honestly, I don't think there will ever be an Irish Miss Universe but a continued placement would be great.

I think with Fionnghuala, Ireland could be VERY competitive. The overall package!

Our national director seems to be completely in sync with IMG. And she is 100% behind her girls.

Fig is definitely the frontrunner, but as I said on the 1st page, being the frontrunner doesn't mean winning Miss Universe Ireland.

It's hers to lose.

She would be the first black, NASA employed Irish beauty Queen. :%))

We are not in trumps era so anything is possible now!!

Trump's favourite to win in 2010 was Roz. I don't think Trump had any problems with Ireland. :%))

IMG on the other has actually solidified sash factor. I don't know why people have ignored that:

- 50% of it's winners have been from the Philippines and 100% placement overall.
- 75% placement for Colombia and Venezuela.
- 100% placement for USA.

Every Miss Universe could end with these 4 countries playing Musical Chairs at the end of the night. :%))

Honestly, I've actually lost interest in Miss Universe. It will never really change as an organisation.

Individual Profiles - Part 5:

Sarah C. is currently studying psychology and criminal justice at the University of Limerick. So far, she has completed 3 years and absolutely loves the course. She thinks it really suits her as she is very interested in learning about the complex workings of our minds and the motivations behind our behaviour.

In addition to wanting to one day have the opportunity of lecturing in psychology and criminal justice at university, Sarah has always dreamed of having a career in modelling because of her love of fashion and the catwalk! She would also love the opportunity to engage in activities such as talking with secondary school students about the importance of protecting their mental well-being and teaching them ways to safeguard their mental health by promoting their emotional resilience.

Her 2019 charity platforms are Limerick’s the Children’s Grief Centre and the Limerick Suicide Watch; both of which are extremely important to her and have such an influential and beneficial role to play within her community.

Ciara Mulligan, a final year student of B.Sc. Business and Law at TU Dublin, Ciara, is working to qualify as a lawyer and is employed as a future trainee solicitor at Matheson.

The social cause that means the most to her is the protection of young people from domestic abuse in their home. She feels it is a cause so rarely spoken of and one that needs more reform with regards to the malpractice of social workers. The law has evolved so much to improve Children’s rights especially through the establishment of Tusla, a state-run body.

However, further protection must be afforded to teenagers and young people as the consequences of domestic abuse can be horrifying. Most charities in this field don’t tend to accept volunteers so she thinks raising awareness through Spun-Out a charity run by young people for young people would be a great start. This cause is so important to Ciara due to her own very difficult family circumstances attributed to mental health illnesses. She never found someone who was going through a similar experience and couldn’t find helpful resources, so she wants to make sure others never undergo her same experience.

Dearbhla Dolan is studying Optometry in TUD with hopes of opening her own practice after graduation.

In addition, she wants to spend her post graduate time and newly acquired training to volunteer in developing countries by providing people with eye exams and glasses. Two organisations that she wants to continue to work with are Vision Aid Overseas and Child Vision. Vison Aid Overseas helps people in the developing world who do not have access to an optometrist or glasses and Child Vision is Ireland’s only charity that deals with education and therapy needs of blind and multi-disabled children.

She is incredibly passionate about the opportunity to be a global ambassador and believes Ireland is the land of ‘Cead Mile Failte’ which means ‘The land of a thousand welcomes.’ She wants to propagate this message, as the world of tomorrow requires diversity, inclusion, and unity to surpass the problems of the future.

Fionnghuala 'Fig' O'Reilly is a determined, self-proclaimed military ‘brat,’ who has never lived anywhere longer than 3 years in a row until she attended university. She has a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from The George Washington University, which she has used to become a Director of the NASA Space Apps Challenge and a NASA Datanaut.

Being appointed a NASA Datanaut means being accepted into a very competitive program made up of engineers and scientists who engage with NASA’s open data to create innovative new thinking, processes, and products. This year, the program officially recognized her initiative, #EmpowermentThroughCoding, whose mission is to support women and girls learning to code. Through her work as a Datanaut, she has also brokered partnerships with amazing organisations like ‘Girls Who Code’ and the ‘Equals Global Partnership’ to host events and bring science communication programming to thousands of women and girls.

As a female engineer, she recognizes that she is a minority in her profession and has experienced why it is so important for women to break through glass ceilings. She wants to work to empower and support women in their careers so that they can stay competitive and continue to learn the skills necessary to go far.

Kira Kilcoyne is currently attending college at the Waterford Institute of Technology, studying business.

Growing up Kira suffered from a lisp and was bullied in primary school for it. While that seems like a very young age, the bullying has impacted her greatly when it came to speaking publicly. Over the years, she worked extremely hard and learned how to overcome it by teaching herself how speak clearly and correctly. Now, she is a lot more comfortable with public speaking, and is no longer worried about it!

The WSPCA, ISPCA, and Dogs Trust Ireland are charities that mean a great deal to Kira due to these charities focusing on the very relevant issue of animal cruelty and rehoming of animals in Ireland. Over the years, her family and her have rescued many dogs and cats by giving them a home. She believes if it wasn’t for these charities, her beloved dogs and animals would have been killed or abandoned.

Individual Profiles - Part 6:

Dearbhla Walsh, a experienced former titleholder, Miss Earth Northern Ireland, is so passionate about pageantry because she loves being a role model to younger girls – “showing them to be confident in every facet of their lives and that they can reach the stars.” She loves the Miss Universe sisterhood bonds that are built with the other women and loves how the contestants support each other. She believes that women should build each other up, not knock each other down.

Dearbhla’s career ambition is to be a TV Presenter for a construction related TV show like ‘Room to Improve’ or ‘Grand designs.’ By using her honours Bachelor of Science degree in Quantity Surveying, she would love to be the Quantity Surveyor on one of these programmes; giving advice for the builds.

She loves that the most unusual thing about her is the fact that the surface façade doesn’t match the interior. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, yet she can still put on a hard hat and boots and compete in a male dominated industry. Self-described – “like legally blonde, but more like construction blonde!”

Nadia Sayers uses her bubbly personality to make a daily difference while working at Pips Charity as a Mental Health/Suicide Prevention Youth Training Facilitator. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Queens University and a Master of Applied Psychology & Mental Health Therapies. The Programme she helped organise won the National Princes Trust Community Impact Award due to the success of the Suicide Prevention & Awareness Workshop (HOPE) programme and the difference it is making in her community.

Additionally, she was also given the ‘200 Hours Millennium Volunteer Award’ for her outstanding work in her community.

Despite all her successes, Nadia has struggled with self-doubt. In the past, she has let her lack of confidence take control of her life, her experiences, and her relationships. However, she slowly began to learn that she was the one holding herself back from living the life she knew she wanted and deserved. Now, she takes on as many experiences as she possibly can. She never wants to regret not doing something because she held herself back. To her, there’s no more room for self-doubt in the big life she wants to live!

Sophie Amelia Bahl was a Top 10 Finalist at Miss Universe Ireland 2017 and is a bubbly, honest, and hardworking woman that epitomizes the brand.
Recently, she has had to overcome a dramatic recovery after spinal correction surgery. We are lucky and grateful to have her alive today after the series of traumatic events that left her with a metal back.

In the summer of 2016, after over a year of waiting, she was excited to finally have the surgery that was going to alleviate her pain and discomfort. She awoke after the procedure in the ICU and the next few days passed by without incident. The day before her scheduled discharge, she fell short of breath, started coughing up blood, and was in tremendous pain. The doctors rushed her back to the ICU for x-rays/Ct scans which showed double pneumonia, an abscess, and fluid in her lungs that was septic and spreading around her body. She immediately underwent an emergency operation. After the surgery and over the course of the next week she remained in the ICU.

Luckily, Sophie prevailed, but the experience forever changed her outlook on life. The whole journey remains a defining part of her life and the entire summer of ’16. It was by far the biggest obstacle in her life, but she now feels stronger than ever.

Rebecca Hanley is a creative, organized, and motivated kindergarten teacher who has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Teaching and Learning. Her long-term career ambition is to work for Apple Education, training other teachers on how to use technology in the classroom.

In addition to educating Ireland’s youth, Rebecca is passionate about AsIAm – Ireland’s National Autism Charity and Advocacy organisation. She thinks that they are doing wonderful work in advocating and providing support and resources to people on the autistic spectrum including their families. She believes that people on the spectrum see the world in a different and beautiful way. This should be celebrated and respected by communities. If everyone was educated in understanding autism, she believes our country would be a better place.

Rebecca is also passionate about Period.org - a global non-profit organisation that aims to end period poverty and stigma. She believes that all girls and women should have access to affordable menstrual care. Girls should not feel ashamed of something as natural as a period and she thinks it is important to start the conversation and educate boys and girls in schools around Ireland.

Miss Universe Ireland 2019 - June Recap:

Honestly, I'm gone a bit pessimistic with pageants, specially Miss Universe, so even though Ireland just got our first ever back-to-back placement, I'm kind of convinced we will never actually see an Irish Miss Universe. Which is alright, I am just about the only fan on the island and even then, I feel like I'm aging out here. But, it would be a disservice for me to not finish the threads that I have started.

So, I will continue in my duty.

What have we seen since the disclosure of the official Top 30 candidates on the 1st June ? How is the 2019 batch turning out ? Just some thougts:

Top 28

For the third year in a row, 2 candidates have dropped out. The magic number is now 28.

Official Headshots

The official headshots are up...and I'm not being biased, but they're stunning. Much better than some of the more established orgs. around the globe #SorryNotSorry. All props to Brittany Mason and Vanessa Bartlett.

Biographies

The bios are also up and we get a glimpse into what these competitors are really like: education, background, achievements etc. There is no doubt, all of these women are going somewhere, beauty pageants or no.

The Faces

- Karen McShea
- Kira Kilcoyne
- Rebecca Hanley
- Shona Tuohy

These are the women who I believe are probably some of the most stunning in the batch, but, after reading their bios, I don't know are they really a threat to win. Place ? Possibly, definitely in some cases, but win ? Not convinced just yet. The English language is easy to manipulate, but if you read it and know it, you can tell who is active in charity or has impressive attainments, and those who have the intentions to have these achievements/attainments one day. There IS a difference.

I'm not criticising, these women are for more impressive then I, a white male, could ever hope to be but I think I am getting what Brittany Mason is looking for. These women could be it, but they haven't the overall package for her to work with, not from what I can see so far, but, there is a whole month left to find out more about them.

The Darkhorses

- Angelique Kilgallon
- Jane Lehan
- Katie O'Donoghue
- Nadia Sayers

These are the women who can absolutely go far in the competition, and I mean really far. In 2017, I underestimated Cailín, even though I knew she had the passion to win: and she did. I made a few comments about her at the time that I am ashamed of now, but she decimated me come the end of the year, so she has eternally won me over.

These ladies have transformable beauty, that's approachable and amiable. They are also mega impressive, professionally/personally and on social media, they come across really well: Jane, for instance, has commented on the headshots of just about everyone of her competitors. What a cutie !

The Frontrunners

- Aoife Carty
- Ciara Mulligan
- Fionnghuala 'Fig' O'Reilly
- Hollie Hersey

These are the women, who I think are leading the pack, right now. They tick all the boxes: beauty, brains, biographies. Honestly, I'm expecting all of them to enter the Top 10, minimum, and really, I believe our winner is already in this group.

In summary

Do not discount any of the women who I haven't mentioned. These 12 are mostly on my radar, but as I said above, all 28 are beautiful, well educated and hardworking. There are returning candidates from previous years, women who have already competed in other international pageants and women who's resumé would make your head spin.

We have another full month to go until the Grand Final on the 1st August. This list will change.

Just some thoughts. :)>-

VERY true statement above! It's very discouraging for the other countries to continue entering a pageant that's focused around the four aforementioned nations. The Trump era placements were actually more diverse and interesting. You've made some key points.

The MUI class of 2019 is very strong, and all the best on moving forward with a delegate that will represent Ireland well!

I know Fig O'Reilly!! She's American and used to compete in Miss District of Columbia USA. Damn, she was one of my top choices for DC in upcoming Miss USA pageants, but I guess she decided to go straight to Miss Universe with Ireland instead. She's definitely gorgeous and so IMG.

Yup, she reached the Top 5 the years she competed.

Miss Dundrum Cosmetics
Aoife Carty

Female strength is physical but it's also mental. We are resilient, empathetic and compassionate. These are some of our greatest strengths.

Miss Universe Leinster
Alexandra Doyle

You are powerful, beautiful, and brave. You are capable of changing the world so never apologise for being a strong woman.

Miss Universe Cork
Katie O’Donoghue

A woman is like a butterfly in that it is not her physical attributes that show her strengths but the layers of change that she goes through to get there. For me, my strength is my self acceptance and my ability to love my layers that have shaped who I am today - an empowered, confident and complex woman - always embracing the next layer so that I can do more, be more and give more.

Miss Universe Limerick
Tracey Coll

Our strengths rest in our ability to lift each other up, empower one another and support each other as women, I want to encourage women to feel strong and beautiful and know we are mentally and physically capable of a lot more then we believe.

Miss Simply Divine
Kira Kilkoyne

To all the women in the world, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to peruse and achieve your own dreams.

Miss Universe Tipperary
Jane Lehan

Life will test you but remember this... when you walk up a mountain your legs get stronger.
From my personal experiences, life certainly cannot be easy. But you should never take those times for granted. You should always pick yourself up, learn from your mistakes, grow much stronger as a person, get out there and do what you always wanted to do. Don’t let anything or anyone ever stop you.

Miss Wildrose
Nadia Sayers

A woman of beauty, is one of passion and purpose...with a little added fire' * 'when a woman's passion burns brighter than her fears, she.is.unstoppable' * 'Nothing can dim the light of a woman who has finally found her voice' * 'made of magic, and forged of fire, she holds a voice of multitudes' * 'once upon a time, she discovered that her soul was fierce, her purpose clear and her voice echoed with love and fire. They called her, a woman.

Miss Universe Ulster
Dearbhla Dolan

Being a woman to me means being a goddess for change. Society often misleads individuals into thinking being female is a disadvantage which is untrue. We are strong, capable and worthy. We need to embrace the gift of being a woman and use our voices to empower others to create positive change.

Miss Love Lisa
Sophie Bahl

To me- being a woman means empowerment, there’s nothing a woman can’t accomplish.

Miss Dani's Closet and Showroom
Sarah Cregan

To me being a woman means lots of different things. For me, it is being able to be both strong and gentle, courageous and brave but also, loving and caring. For me, it’s feeling confident and beautiful in my own skin. It means knowing that I am enough, that I am just as capable of achieving success as any man.

Miss Universe Wicklow
Qichen Hu

Being a woman means being blessed with the most captivating, exuberant and influential role god has to offer. As women we are persistent, independent and self-motivated. We don’t sit around waiting for miracles to happen, we are the leaders of our own destiny and claim our own throne.

Miss Universe Antrim
Sarah Cunningham

Rise up to be the best version of yourself! Approach life with a positive attitude, stay true to yourself and don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Bravery will take you places, so take risks and strive to shatter those glass ceilings.

Miss Elle No. 5
Angelique Kilgallon

When you really want something and go after it without limiting yourself with disbelief , the universe will make it happen.

Miss Natural Beauty
Adrienne Mullen

Beauty doesn’t rinse off. To feel beautiful, practice self- acceptance and learn to embrace the natural beauty you have been gifted. True beauty radiates from how you treat others; with kindness, respect, honesty, and how you carry yourself.

Miss Universe Donegal
Dearbhla Walsh

My advice to young women would be to stand strong, never be complacent and never be submissive to anyone who manipulates you or controls your thoughts or actions. Stand tall, stand proud and stand strong!

Miss Universe Dublin
Fionnghuala 'Fig' O'Reilly

The beauty of a woman lies in her power to dream up and manifest the life she wants. It takes courage to take the first step and continue to take steps each day to make dreams of the future a reality.

Miss Universe Munster
Niamh Myles

Women are multifaceted and we each have something unique to contribute to the world.
The future is female serves as a reminder to remove self doubt and that we each have a voice. We must own it, we must use it and we must never deny the world of it.

Miss Universe Cavan
JoJo Quinn

My advice for women or young girls is be absolutely crazy and authenticity you, life is so short. Don’t ever worry if people are gonna judge you, people are always gonna judge you so better off just boogie your way through life!

Miss DD-2 Boutique
Ciara Mulligan

To define a woman is to limit her endless potential. If I was to give women advice it would be "to always take every chance as it comes"...this way we all fight to turn our dreams into realities.

Miss West Coast
Kaylyn McGrath

Becoming your own best friend is so important. It is crucial for your own health and happiness that you are aware of your strengths and weaknesses so that you can effectively work towards your goals and dreams and become the woman who you are meant to be.
