Thoughts on the top 5...

1) Paulina is the deserving winner. No one stood out in the Q&A so the ones who came close to stealing the crown from her lost their chance.
2) Kaci was indeed robbed. But not of the title. She should have been 1st runner up. It must be the curse of the pixie cut. A woman's long-flowing hair still rules as a natural crown.
3) I agree that Diana was killing it up until the Q&A portion.
4) Yasmin was not the deserving dark horse, if there should be one. She was bland as a 3-day old coffee.
5) Nia deserved the top 5 placing, despite her valleyish accent. Girls 6-10 were really weaker than her.

Thoughts on the top 10...

6) It was clear after the EG that MJ won't make the cut. She was swallowed by the eye-grabbing style and colors of the rest. Wear white, fine. But it better be an outstanding white.
7) Valentina gave a good fight. She deserved the placement.
8. Desire should have occupied Yasmin's place.
9) Migbelis tried to catch up (with the red gown that showed her tummy). It was too late.
10) Tegan. No.

It was a great Top 5! Netherlands was unexpected but also worthy, but Spain instead of her would have made it a perfect Top 5!

Colombia was really effortless, she was so
regal. Only Jamaica could have beat her.

Jamaica was so refreshing, she would have made a very cool Miss U!

Ukraine is beautiful, but she looks like a plastic doll.

Philippines placed as far as she could. She was awesome in SS, but again other girls were great too, equally sexy but taller. In EG, she was good but outclassed. Top 5 gowns were colorful and stylish.

Paulina Vega was indeed the runaway winner. When I first saw her in the preliminary gown competition, she made such a big impression that every woman that came after her was measured against her.

As for the top 5 judges question....half the judges cannot read to save their lives. Of the 5, three do not have good speaking voices...and I think Miss USA impressed the other judges by actually clarifying the question posed to her as I didn't understood Mr. Marblemouth either. Kudos to her.

As for those who predicted MJ's win....I understood the passion of supporting your girl, but you also have to be realistic. Anybody, unburdened by nationalism, would see that Colombia was the one to beat.

As for the three hours telecast...with the extra time, you would think the swimsuit and gown competitions actually would take a little longer for the judges to assess each contestants. It was a quickie flash and "BYE!". Again, no sense of time management.

Q&A is just a small thing compared to the entire competition. Girls were observed since their arrival in Doral and since then Paulina was the media darling together with Venezuela and Spain. She is very attractive and doesn't need to do a lot to get attention. Beautiful natural body, beautiful natural face. She seems emotionless, an ice queen, and that's fine, not all latinas are the same. Paulina is classy. On the other hand Jamaica with her short hair is the exotic Queen, and just like Colombia, she doesn't need to do much to get noticed.
USA is a typical cheerleader looking type and Trump loves that. Not my cup of tea.
Netherlands looks latina. She looks like she could easily be from Brazil, Colombia. She is gorgeous but air head, lacks personality. Ukraine is stunning, the most beautiful of all 4 girls but she was over reacting way too much.

This is a good read.

By the way, I personally think, Colombia deserved the crown among the 5.

Thanks for an excellent review. You demonstrated that you can talk about the pageant without hate and bitterness, but with just the perfect blend of objectivity and personal taste.

I knew MJ was not going to make it to the Top 5... she indeed was swallowed alive by more superior gowns. At the end, you can only do so much with a mediocre product.

I agree with so many points you outlined: Netherlands was my dark horse; all girls screwed up their Q&A; Jamaica deserved a much higher placement - even the crown. I still am not sold with Colombia - the chin and the shoulders bother me. I would have been happy if she answered her questions eloquently but she didn't, as far as I am concerned.

Sadly, I think this is one of the worst Miss Universe I've seen in years. So many production glitches and too many and too much in-your-face plugging of the sponsors (the city of Doral, technically does not exist yet - this is why what they showed on TV is artist's rendering of what they envision the city to become).

But like you said, we move on...

i'm so glad for elvira

I was over confident that she will be in the top 15
I knew she would make it,,, and then she was called... I was not so surprised like Whulan being called but I was so happy,,, but no jumping or other crazy reaction,,, just a smile

I'm quite afraid before she presents herself in swimsuit round
but when i saw it, I was like,,, I'm going to top 5, yao...

turned out I was shocked when she was not in top 10 :-O :-O :-O
aside from her make up and hairstyle... her swimsuit presentation was so better than Nia and Australia..... but seeing her clapped for Netherland after swimsuit presentation that she gave... i was like @-) @-) @-)
but I'm happy that we win best natcos,,,

I like JAMAICA but she's not miss universe title holder, she needs calmness class to be miss universe I think... but I agree she's not 4th RU... 1st RU at least
but I'd like Nia or Netherland as my Miss Universe

How can I be bitter if MJ herself accepted her fate with open arms. Of course at first we were all shocked and sad. That's normal. But in the end, MJ's dream is to win Miss Universe Philippines and wear the Philippine sash.

She did very well in representing our country as every day of her life in Doral, she managed to surprise us. Winning Miss Universe is a great gift but if it is not meant to happen, then all we can do is to move forward and remember the many good experiences MJ shared to her loving fans and supporters day in and out.

For sure, MJ needs a rest. The whole process was exhausting as she started preparing for Binibini last year in January and after 12 long months, her final examination is over. Placing at the top 10 along with Spain, Argentina, Venezuela and Australia is already a BIG blessing.

MJ fought so hard. We can only do much. Hoping that all the issues plaguing about who should dress our Filipina queens will be answered soon. Filipino designers are all very talented. We should celebrate the Filipino talents. All we need is BAYANIHAN and not crab mentality. This is the time for us do something as what had happen to MJ is a CLEAR VALIDATION that there is something wrong with Madam Stella's decision of not not letting our very own Pinoy designers to dress our representatives.

I am taking this as if MJ was the sacrificial lamb. If MJ will place at the Top 5, Stella will be complacent. She can easily brag that there is nothing wrrong because whatever gowns our Filipina representatives would wear, they can place. :hx

Nice review.

But, Yasmin (Netherlands) was NEVER at Miss World - so its wrong to say she was ignored there. Netherlands crowns two queens - for MW and Miss Universe, and Tatjana Maul, who won Netherlands World, was very much noticed and placed at MW.

Nice review. I have no problem with Colombia taking home the crown. She deserved it. I just don’t get why Jamaica placed low. Kaci should have been in the top 3.

Miss Netherlands came out of nowhere. I was shocked with her placement. @-)

I enjoyed Ukraine so much. For me the best performer! She was simply SUPREME in her evening gown presentation. European beauties should mimic her performance in the future and learn from this STAGE GODDESS!!!

Netherlands is beyond gorgeous and serene. However, I find her lifeless! I do think she is deserving though. For me, USA had no business in the Top 5! I enjoyed Australia more than Nia herself, let alone robbed Miss SPAIN!!! Italy was a great performer but she lacks face value. I find India out of place in the line-up, she didn't look her best...

Overall, best in swimsuit were: Ukraine, Colombia, Argentina, Philippines, and Venezuela because she projects beauty and radiates confidence although being out of shape.
best in gown: Ukraine, Jamaica and Colombia. The others lacked in different areas. Spain was too safe, yet very universal. I'm disappointed she didn't make it all the way...I bet Venezuela scored the lowest in evening gown round, she looked bloated. Again, I really enjoyed Australia!

Nice review Uno!

Totally agree.... that's why Stella got away with putting Filipina beauty queens in garbage dresses because they still manage to win. Now, she is being held accountable.

Am with you with MJ... she really put up a good fight that every Filipino should be proud. The ironic thing is, I think among the delegates Philippines sent to Miss Universe in the past 5 years, she was the best and dare I say, she put in the most work. Yet, she ended up the least successful. Sacrificial lamb, she definitely was.

Kaci, Kaci, Kaci!!!

First of all, I want to say that she could have won and I would have been happy.

:=p :=p She needed to elaborate on Marley. To just say that Marley is Jamaica's biggest contribution is robbing him of his message for peace, unity, love, and acceptance during a time in our world when it was so necessary! She could have said that he was a person that carried Jamaica's and the world's message of peace and she could have won.

Indonesia was robbed in Top 15.

Spain and Philippines were robbed in Top 10.

Jamaica was robbed in Top 5.
she's the universe's choice after all! #fact

I think Miss Netherlands has this Kim Kardashian vibe so the Americans loved her.

But, Yasmin (Netherlands) was NEVER at Miss World - so its wrong to say she was ignored there. Netherlands crowns two queens - for MW and Miss Universe, and Tatjana Maul, who won Netherlands World, was very much noticed and placed at MW.

Nice to see the Netherlands did so well this year. Maybe it will revive a stronger pageant tradition there.

Darling, you sound quite sore. You need to move on. Philippines is a beauty pageant country and its time will come.

As for your comments, you took so serious Jamaica's 4th RU placement and PH's exclusion in the top 5 that you think all the judges choices were wrong. Remember you watched them on TV and the judges experienced them within a 10 meter distance.

Regarding Paulina, she was always the clear winner. It was a clean effortlessly win. BTW, when she was called into the top 10 she was so nervous that she got blocked and couldn't hear/understand when they called Colombia into the top 10.

As for Jamaica. She indeed did not deserve being 4th RU, beauty wise, her right placement was 1st RU. However, not Miss Universe, Paulina was he clear winner.

All the best babe. You're cute.

Big hug from Curacao :=p

My heart is still bleeding for Jamaica!! I though last night would be Miss Universe 2011 all over again where the winner was the crowd favorite.

Anyway, the top 15 announcement was a bore!! They should have shown all the VTR after the announcement not inserting between announcement of countries. It killed the excitement for me.

Last year's production was much better than last Sunday night. I blame it on the venue (small venue, even smaller stage). I only liked Gavin de Graw's performance. I'm not Latino so I'm not familiar with Prince Roy. Mister Olivia Culpo was okayish. He'll get more attention from his "Kingdom" stint.

Fair Top 15. My heart is crushed for Mexico, Russia, and Serbia, Josselyn most of all.

But on a lighter note, I'm glad France made it =c3 I was afraid my European bet will get ignored. Good job Camille. Serbia could have taken Italy's place (sorry Italian fans).

Image

I'm also glad that three Asians made the cut this year. We all know that PH and India will make the Top 15 (for all the reasons we can agree and disagree about). So it was a very pleasant surprise to see Elvira. I didn't like her at first but she slapped me hard during the early days of the competition. She reminded me of the Japanese dolls of the early 2000s. Two consecutive placements for Indonesia =D> BUT...

As much I like Elvira (her gown is exquisite too), my vote for BEST NATCOS goes to.... Chanel/Ms. Canada :!! . Maybe it's me (a hockey fan) but nothing says more Canadian than a nat cos made of hockey equipment. Love you Chanel :hx Blackhawks who?

Image

The most diverse Tough 5 since 2011 but the worst in terms of Q&A. =0 I'm in unison with other forumers in saying that Desiree deserved to be there, either to replace USA or Netherlands.

But of course, MUO already has its eyes on Paulina. No complaint from me because she too was my winner. Jamaica was very commendable. One of the classiest, most elegant-looking delegate of 2014 and she deserved a higher placement as Colombia's runner up.

Fairest review in the whole forum. Indonesia should've replaced the fat Migbelly. Spain is very beautiful but she couldn't make an impact, she was too simple and surprisingly her catwalk was not so good. That latina USA should've been replaced with Argentina. The rest was fair dinkum. Yasmin deserved her place, and she is the most overlooked contestant this year. She has that interesting aura that make true pageant lovers loved her. TBH, Gavin DeGraw performance was the best among the others. I love it and can't stop watching.

That time Yasmin's face and the fire on the background. Ukraine walking down the stairs on fire literally. And Colombia's whole walk on fire (and her lipsync too :%)))
