I don't think there are really any surprises, none that I remember.

Forreal, I'm so beyond sick of it. I mean, Mississippi gave me hope after a major frontrunner gave an atrocious answer and lost anyway, but can we just make a rule where they aren't answering questions for no reason?

This was Gracie's first time competing in Miss Kansas USA. She is an alumna of Southern Methodist University in Texas, and is currently pursuing a master's degree at the University of Kansas. Gracie is the daughter of Clark Hunt, a billionaire businessman and the co-owner and co-chairman of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Tavia Shackles, former Miss Kansas USA 1993 who placed as the second runner-up at Miss USA 1993, and the granddaughter of Lamar Hunt, the founder and owner of the Chiefs until 2006.

Welp, no real surprise here. Over the course of the night, it became clear Gracie would win, although I did not really think she deserved it at all. She was by far the worst speaker in the bunch, and was certainly outshined in EG by a couple of the other finalists. The fact she is a billionaire who comes from a famous family probably helps a lot though. Honestly, I don't see her doing much damage at Miss USA, just another blonde midwest Vanbros girl. I'm hoping that Sierra and Liza return, Liza proved to be really a breath of fresh air that I was not expecting at all.
Queen of the Clouds wrote:Apparently Gracie's family's wealth stretches back even further than I thought lol. Her great-grandfather was H. L. Hunt, an oil tycoon who started his oil empire by trading his poker winnings. He had a net worth of at least $1 billion and when he died he was believed to be the richest man in the world. But... he was also a white supremacist who advocated for deporting African-Americans back to Africa so yikes.

Yikessssss. I can't really hold the sins of her ancestors against her, but this whole family-of-billionaires thing kind of doesn't make her that exciting.
I understand that pageantry is an expensive hobby that is only attainable to women of some degree of means, but someone coming from generations of billionaires who, more likely than not, made some of that money in highly unsavory ways, doesn't really excite me.

Yeah I agree. I go into Miss USA assuming most of the girls come from wealthier backgrounds, but this sort of wealth is just blah. You just can't relate to someone who comes from a family like this, and part of the fun is watching an ordinary girl's life change by winning the crown. Gracie's would barely change at all, she's already a billionaire heiress, if anything being Miss USA is a step down from that.

She posted EG as well
Quite honestly, I now feel even better about my prediction that she won't do too well at Miss USA. Walking skills are coachable and fixable, but a lot of the girls already crowned are already leaps and bounds ahead of her as far as technical skills go. She did better in SS than EG, but neither really wowed me.
