Is it just me, or are the Filipinos master hypers? I mean, yeah sure, the Philippines does well in Miss Universe, but statements like, "Our delegate will outshine these women," baffle me. Filipino queens are never outstandingly striking beauty wise. I mean take Janine for instance, who was beautiful yes, but in my opinion, the least beautiful facially and physically in the Top 5 last year. Her body wasn't great, and her face wasn't mesmerising.
But what Filipino queens have is charisma and talent! That is undeniable. They prepare to give one hell of a show. Janine worked that stage last year and had the finesse of a seasoned drag queen. Which is what, I think, makes Filipino queens so successful. They contour the hell out of their faces, give us a killer catwalk, and smile like it's the last time they'll ever perform. They serve drama. But incredibly beautiful? I'm sorry, I cannot agree.
But I do love this year's Bb. Pilipinas batch. I think Pia & Mutya are beautiful, and Ria and Charmaine have X-factor. But the candidates' bodies are a nightmare. I've seen so much stomach flab from their photographs. I hope they can fix that.
Going to this list, as early as it is, I think this list is as valid as can be. There are absolutely beautiful women already this year. My bet thus far is Monic Perez, Miss Puerto Rico. She's amazing. I have an ominous feeling that they are going to pull out all the stops for her, like in Zuleyka's year. She's the perfect canvas for another legend to arise. Poland is also gorgeous, but I fear for her preparation and once Ukraine, Albania & Croatia are crowned, she might lose her appeal.
The asians are bringing fire this year, with Japan, rising up again from it's fall of glory. Yukomi is a doll, but I fear that her and Korea, might go unnoticed due to the change in interest from their type of beauty and appeal. But they could do amazing things once prepared nonetheless. Whulandry doesn't excite me for some reason.
Now for the yearly talk of the town: the latinas. I think Venezuela is being cooked. She's beautiful and can play the line between natural and made-up, But we don't know her personality yet. I think once we do, we'll understand how much of a threat she is. Like Irene. Not many knew that she was the firecracker she was last year. Everyone thought she was eleganza supreme before December. Colombia, as amazing as she is, doesn't fit the bill for me. She'll either stand out to win(which I think is unlikely), or be ignored in her own glory. She just doesn't fit, which makes her an ambiguous case. Bolivia is pretty, but I don't see her in the top 5, lest her personality blows everyone else out of the water. Mexico is basic.
With the whole France situation, I think Marine would do fantastic! Has anyone actually seen how gorgeous she is? There's a reason she won over Hinari: she's just more beautiful. But the latter would do quite well too. She definaitely would be ignored.
With the case of Africa, Gabon scares me. I've never known them to prepare girls well. That goes for most African countries. I think countries that actually do take effort in terms of contestant selection and preparation is Angola, and my country, South Africa. Angola this year is a flop though, which is startling because they have the most beautiful women! South Africa, this year is a silent killer. There's something about Marilyn. Call it a quiet confidence, I dunno. But she's not a standout. But she has magic. She won against a very competitive group of girls. But our country never chooses a girl in vain. There's never a mistake. Even with Bokang, who wasn't that beautiful, but had a drive you couldn't sell on the street, that outshined many-a-queen in Miss World.
Marilyn is beautiful. Many think she's a downgrade from Melinda, who's the reason I joined this forum, but I think she might surpass even Melinda's placing. I've heard that Werner(Melinda's stylist and pageant trainer/enthusiast) and Melinda herself will help transform and prepare Marilyn. I think everyone should prepare themselves for a Gona Dragusha moment.
Anyway, that was my first post on Misso after many months of spying. God bless you all!
