"I played volleyball since I was seven. At first in Poseidon, Veroia and then when I was 15 in Hercules and in the teams of the national team, with my mother bringing me to my training. Indeed, a Russian manager had seen me and I was going to go and compete in the championship. Although I was only 90 pounds, the limits of nervous anorexia, which meant I had to do immediate reinforcement, he liked both my technique and my body type since I have the right proportions, long legs and I am everywhere in good shape.
A few weeks before I left, in preparation with the national team of teenagers in Soufli, we were in the gym along with the men's department and lifting weights. My coach was missing. Someone bet me that I can not lift 300 pounds on the bar. I tried it. And in the second repetition I heard a crack and I fell down. I suffered a spinal injury and a fracture in my tailbone. I spent the next five months in the bed of a clinic in Thessaloniki, unable to walk.
As long as I was bedridden I went through a mini-depression. I was shocked. Volleyball was my whole life. I thought 'my dreams ended. And I am guilty of it.' The worst was when doctors could not find out why I could not walk, they made me take so many tests, including my brain. This particular night, until the results came out, was the worst of my life.
I remember my mother trying to hide her anxiety by going and crying all night in the bathroom. And I was sure that something very bad is happening to me. Five months later, I walked out of the clinic, but again I did not feel well, I felt my feet paralyzing. So the doctor told me to go to school with a wheelchair.
The first time I went to school with the wheelchair was very uncomfortable. But both my friends and my teachers made me feel good. I got up from the wheelchair at the end of the school year. But I continued to take pills and do intensive physical therapies for another year & and a half."

I think we're going to look back and realize that Ioanna Bella might be one of the most important Star Hellas winners in pageant history.
