I can say YES! this is a very weak batch by looking at the proportion of competitive/beautiful girls vs non.
But as mentioned, we are only half way there! This status can still change..it's now all up to the non-powerhouse to make this batch better.
Many of the powerhouses failed big time

But the Latinas are strong this year, Peru, Panama, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua could potentially make the cut and I haven't even mentioned Venezuela or ones to be crowned like Colombia, Dom Rep, Puerto Rico, etc.
Asians are hit or miss with Philippines and Vietnam as big hits while other countries crowned underwhelming girls, especially Indonesia and Thailand. We still have India to be crowned as well as Korea.
Europe will be interesting to watch. France is good, Malta is promising, Czech Rep is a fresh face, Spain will have a spotlight on her, etc. Still to come Ukraine, Greece, Ireland, etc.
Besides that, USA and South Africa strong. And Australia is promising.

And also, Catriona is a strong, top notch candidate to begin with, reason why she's still in everybody's radar when it comes to who will possibly win the crown this year. Central America does have the strongest reps, but they will kill each other because of the Continental group selection of the semifinalists. Asia is weak this year,Vietnam, Kazakhstan & The Philippines will clinch the 3 semifinals spot, with Malaysia & Australia in the wings. The possible wildcards will be Thailand, Indonesia & Spain ( I think the LGBT community will move things for her )

It is just that so far this year, one Asian delegate is way ahead of the rest and I am not talking about the one from the country were the winner received free long pointed chin as part of the prize package, the Miss Reality VS Expectation Photoshop girl from Nguynguyen's mother land, and the plain one from the land of grand comedy. There are 3 very articulate ladies among this year's top favorites, and if they become the top 3, then it will be of the strongest finalists ever. Definitely better than 2016 and 2017, and the group of the not so bright ladies from 2014 with the not so smart one who eventually won that year. There are strong girls from weak sash countries that you hardly see on social media, and I think, Kazakhstan is way more beautiful than the 2 overrated Southeast Asians.

Is this all that's in your mind 24/7? Man that's sad.
One of the "Southeast Asians" you mentioned doesn't have strong sash, so your rambling makes no sense.

Which are the powerhouses (in your opinion) that failed?

Sybarite, I was laughing out loud at some statements in your post. I guess some of us can't fathom even an ounce of truth when they see it, and therefore can't see the humor wrapped around it!
