The producer of the Miss Universe pageant on Tuesday sued the Czech company hired to make the winners' iconic crowns, saying it kept touting its association with the pageant even after it breached its 10-year sponsorship agreement.

IMG Universe, whose parent company bought the pageant from Donald Trump in 2015, said it canceled Diamonds International Corp's (DIC) contract last August after financial problems caused the Prague-based company to miss two required payments.

DIC nonetheless kept advertising its ties to the pageant, including on its website where it displayed its logo atop the Miss Universe name, according to the lawsuit.

Miss Universe trademarks are "famous and distinctive," and DIC's use of them deceived the public and caused "substantial and irreparable harm" to the pageant, IMG said in its complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

DIC did not immediately respond to requests for comment after business hours in the Czech Republic. Lawyers for the plaintiff did not immediately respond to similar requests.

The lawsuit seeks triple damages for the alleged trademark infringement, $2.04 million of contractual payments, and unspecified damages for breaching the sponsorship agreement, which was to run from 2015 to 2024.

IMG Universe also produces the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants.

Its parent, the talent agency William Morris Endeavor, known as WME/IMG, bought the Miss Universe Organization from Trump in September 2015 for an undisclosed price. The purchase came a few days after Trump bought NBCUniversal's 50 percent stake, giving him full ownership.

Miss Universe's crown has undergone many changes in the pageant's 65-year history.

According to the complaint, DIC said its crown was "designed to blend the Czech roots of DIC with the beautiful skyline of New York City, home of the Miss Universe Organization and its title holders."

Good News.

Miss Universe Organization is in talks with K.S Concepts Ltd, a famed crown manufacturer based in New York.

K. S Concepts Ltd, is known in various national pageants, most notably Bb. Pilipinas where majority of the crowns given were purchased from them, including the iconic Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown.

It should have ended when Donald Trump called it quit... They can easily win this if they have smart lawyers...

MUO is in deep shit. Their pageant is becoming irrelevant to most of the universe. The production of Miss Universe pageants since IMG took over were soooo cheap and below par of what is expected in Miss Universe. Last year's host had to shell out a ton of cash just to have the pageant. They put a fat candidate in the semis so that people will talk about her and the pageant, despite the truth that she was just too lazy to exercise. They included an undeserving Miss USA in the semis as well just because she's black. MUO now is too much politics and less glam.

The DIC Miss USA and Miss Universe crowns are okayish. On the other hand, the DIC Miss Teen USA crown is horrendous and dangerous to use. No wonder they didn't use it after 2015.

If that's the case, then why is Kara still crowned and still wearing in her media tour, the Miss USA's DIC crown? Last year, it was Miss Teen USA (Karlie) who wasn't crowned in a DIC and kept on wearing the Diamond Nexus crown in her reign. Iris was crowned in DIC but wore the Diamond Nexus in her photoshoot.

So, it's going to be DNL in Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA while they remain the DIC in Miss USA? Inconsistent.
Personally, among the DNL crowns, my favorite is Miss USA's.

With MUO ending their contract with DIC, do you think that they'll go back with DNL, or they'll find another crown sponsor for 2018? I think Iris and Karlie will crown their successors with DNL.

Technically, MUO owns those crowns (Mikimoto, DIC and DNL Crowns). That's why we saw Pia wore the Mikimoto crown once and the DNL crowns still being used in these cases.

DNL, DIC, Mikimoto are crown and prize sponsors as far as we know. They provide the crowns etc as part of their sponsorship agreement. Unless there's a provision in their agreement to the contrary, the crowns are property of the MUO and they're not obliged to return it.

Do you guys think that the Mikimoto shooting with Pia might have been a "first warning" ?
Other than surprising Pia obviously.

.

I think the "first warning" was using the Diamond Nexus crown in Miss Teen USA 2016 (July 2016) instead of the DIC crown.

I think they used the DNL Teen USA crown because the DIC one looks really dangerous to use.

Just look at it. You can poke someone's eye out or injure someone accidentally with all those points.

The idea behind the crown is nice but the execution is horrible and dangerous.

Looks like DIC forgot that the crown is gonna be used for a pageant and not a passion play.

So far we still did not see the Miss USA DNL crown for a long time and we thought Deshuanna will use the old crown but so far we still see the current DIC crown from the Kara.

Well that's a shame because be it Universe, USA or Teen USA, the DNL crowns are so much more beautiful than the ugly DIC crowns.

DNL USA has such a regal look!

I do not like DIC and DNL crowns.
DNL Miss Universe crown has been broken because Dayana dropped that big ass crown.
Moderated version's look is much better.

DNL Miss USA crown has been broken during Rima Fakih era,

DNL Miss Teen USA crown is just so so.

DICk crowns are just terrible.
Especially Miss Teen USA crown. That looks like weapon!

I wanna see cool ass designs of new crown sponsor's new crowns.
And don't change anymore!
