Maxine Medina's Translator

Postby girly010 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 1:17 pm

Who was maxine medina's translator in miss universe? where did MUO get this person, is that a filipino? his translation of the question was wrong. 'what is the most signifant change' he translated 'ano ang pinakamakabuluhang naganap na pangyayari - means happening or event. it should be 'pagbabago' - change. maxine's answer was right if it based on the interpreter, miss universe was a significant event. but its wrong translation. i know maxine can understand english but its more understandable if we hear it in our native language. probably next time philippines will be no longer need an interpreter especially if they get that kind that is inaccurate.

BUT STILL STEVE SAID IT CLEARLY ON HER FACE "CHANGE" AND SHE UNDERSTAND IT. SHE CAN UNDERSTAND ENGLIH BECAUSE SHE ABSWER IN ENGLISH.

BUT STILL ITS A LAME ANSWER HAVING MISS UNIVERSE IN PHILIPINES AS SIGNIFICANT "EVENT" IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.

I agree the question was all about CHANGE and not event. The best answer could have been any of the the following:

1. Change in Philippine presidency, change in governance, change of policies, change of people in the government
2. Climate changes affecting our environment
3. Technology (such as cell phone, social media, Skype, faster internet connection, etc) shaping the way people live. It was totally different 15-20 years ago.

These are the top changes within our society that has greatly affected our way of living. She could have chosen either one of these topics. But then again we know that Maxine has difficulty thinking and articulating issues so there's nothing much you can do about it, that's just where she ends. In fairness the question was kinda deep and profound for a beauty pageant. Questions should be something like "what make you blush" hehehehe

She understood the question perfectly, so it didn't really matter what the interpreter said.

What mattered, however, was the fact that (1) she did not use the interpreter to capture the essence of what she really wanted to say (I don't need to comment on her English), and (2) because of that, her response appeared to be too shallow, although there was really some merit to giving importance to getting together as one people amidst all the conflicts currently enveloping the nation.

Maxine was so beautiful that night, but oh so bland. Even in the casual interview right after being called into the top 15, she could not converse well with Mr. Harvey. She was just not prepared. All she could say in video uploads of her is "thank you for all your support" in English or Tagalog. Let this be a lesson to all Binibinis to be natural and engaging, not bland and safe.

No more interpreter for Filipina candidates. Let our Filipina beauty queens speak English for Q&A. The interpreter for Maxine was also being bashed afterwards. Remember the winner Ms France, her French to English translation was lost somehow. Once is enough that we tried to have an interpreter and somewhat translation can get wrong.

Your parents been should have been allowed to drown in the South China Sea, instead of being allowed in as refugees in the Philippines.

To my knowledge, Vietnam has never even made it to the semis in Miss Universe. Thus, you keep inserting yourself in every conversation about pinoy beauty queens because you have no international Vietnamese beauty queen that you can talk about.

Tell that to those insatiable but clueless online bashers who descended upon Maxine after her "send-off" party like a flock of vultures. I still laugh, derisively, at how even former beauty queens joined the fray. Maxine's responding in English, not matter how shallow-sounding, is a slap on their faces.

Please do not blame the translator. Maxine heard what Steve said before the translator would deliver his words.
Blame the poor kabayans who want Maxine to use an interpreter. Besides kahit tama ang sagot niya, it is not enough for her to penetrate top 3. Reality.
