Why European delegates struggling at IMG Era of Miss Universe?

Postby ajsy0203 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:47 pm

Prior to IMG takeover of MUO, European delegates dominated the semifinals since 2008 but almost all of them ended up fell short of making to the top 5 or even winning the title. When IMG tookover the MUO, only 2 delegates from Europe made it to the semifinals at the 64th edition and even worse only 1 of them made it to the top 13 this edition. On the other side Miss France made it to the top 5 for the 1st time in 62 years and eventually ended the 63 year title drought the following edition.

What were the factors that most of the European delegates (except France) prevented from getting in the semifinals recently unlike the last few years of NBC/Trump era?

I don't think so.. Its their preparation and Iris from France is the most prepared delegate from Europe. Her win is a testament that its all about the preparation and personality that IMG is looking for..

Because they have no stage presence and it could be karma for the 50's-80's remember when Europeans use to win the crown year after year? But this year it should've been two ,France and Netherlands. Mostly their gown don't help them either, they are stuck in a pageant patty stage. Take a look at Ukraine 2011, Great Britain 2013, Netherlands, Ukraine 2014. They were far from pageant patty and made it far.

Europe doesnt care about beauty pageant in general so girls doesnt prepare well and not hungry for the crown

If you go to Europe especially West and Scandinavia part, beauty pageant is not relevant anymore during this era

Because IMG loves drama and most european candidates has no drama in life from the last Miss Universe season. I mean they live in a rich countries, they get so many benefits from the government at their country and can travel around the world whenever they want, they don't have those struggles in life like some poor families living in South America, Africa or Asia. If you could check most european candidate's videos lastym, most of their stories was like telling that they had a happy childhood, a licensed scuba diver at young age, a professional dancer, loves traveling the world.. etc. etc. I think the only way for IMG to feel attracted to a european candidate is when the girl have an interesting story, or interesting profession that would benefit the MUO like the case of Iris, she is a dentistry student, she could help many people on dental stuffs during her reign, and that would be a good legacy! Plus i forgot to say that most european candidates doesn't have that spark on stage, they have a weak performance on catwalk, except Iris. Although i feel sad for Netherlands too. She has a good performance, but because she doesn't have a sad life story, maybe the IMG thinks that she will be okay and can still survive even she clapped since she was a professional dancer at her country. I don't know but that's what i feel lol.

Honestly I don't think the personal stories matter as much. If it did, Haiti would've won and not Iris. They would've also mentioned Chalita's cleaner story more, but instead they focused on her microbiology studies. I think IMG just wants to show to the viewers (who aren't pageant enthuasiasts like us) that these girls have lives outside of the pageant world i.e. as dentists, interior decorators, military officers, lawyers, bank executives, ophthalmologists. That's what they're capitalizing on. They don't want a pageant professional whose very existence depends on joint one pageant after another.

As for the TS question, I think it really just boils down to the reduced number - 13. If there were more, I'm sure a couple more European delegates would've gone through. Netherlands come to mind.

Bcuz European pageant girls doesn't take proper catwalk training.
Most of them doesn't doing catwalk like bouncy ass bitch
Still catwalk qweens slays on the stages.

Trump era or IMG era or whatever, they basically loves drama.
Trump loves controversy, IMG loves tragic stories,
They loves money and attention.

So many bishes who has tragic stories got placed in Top 13.

The owner was changed, Format was changed,
European won this years Miss Universe since long time ago,

BUT BASICALLY doesn't really changed.
Just slightly different with Trump era.

Drama is still continues.
And most of European girls who didn't get proper training will clap hard

Which means boring ass girls won't get place.

So, weak sash girls must have a great heart but they must to slay on the stages.
Look at the Curaçao! They need to do like Curaçao!
Never!

Contestants that come from rich countries are very much into pageantry and you can tell by the fans they have.
In Europe they don't care for pageantry they even don't care to win the Miss Universe title, so, they won't go and live in New York for one year, but, it also depends on the contestant. I know for a fact most of the Greek young ladies going to Miss Universe they don't care to win, as a matter of fact, they may do so bad in their preliminary interview process on purpose for that matter. A Miss Universe Greece when she wins the title most of them and that is only for the more intelligent ones end up working in a television show, modeling or marry a very rich man, and others just end up doing nothing with their life going around in cafes, clubbing and wasting their future.
I remember when Evelina Papantoniou Miss Universe Greece 2001 did not win actually she was hoping to NOT win and was happy she didn't... after the pageant she was saying I got the best placement and I get to go home, her modeling career after the pageant went great and she made a lot of money!!! :-D

Europe is generally not a pageant continent, but more sports soccer compared to the Latin World where they are more pageant fans and more viewership.

Update:
After Iris' win at Miss Universe 2016. MUO and IMG decided to go with continental format (which lots of netizens were not happy about it) where more European made the cut but since the new format implemented none of the European delegates advanced into the Final 5 and even worse the wildcard slots were given to the delegates from the Americas and Asia Pacific group in the last 3 editions. Iris is now the last European to win Miss Universe and to advance in the Top 5.

Its all about the market. Countris where pageants are extremely popular places EVERY YEAR. I am not denying that these girls aren’t good. But lets face it, Venezuela, USA, Philippines etc placed continually because of popularity in the home nations. Miss Universe is a brand, and the brand has nothing to gain from crowning Miss Finland ahead of Miss Venezuela,

Also of course preparation etc counts in.

Europe has been robbed.. such as in 2001 when Greece was the obviously best girl. But politics gained the upper hand

It all boils down to performance. Most European girls don't know how to project on stage. They're lackluster and quite frankly boring. When you look at all the IMG winners, they all wanted to win. They showed up and showed out.
