We are worrying about the title of the girl, dear. If the date no longer matters, let Pia's successor crown another Miss Universe in November, and then the 2018 titleholder will be crowned in January (which will give her a very short reign). What matters here is that Miss Universe is being held in the wrong year. The date isn't meaningless, because if Miss Universe no longer focuses on the year she was crowned, what's the use of celebrating the pageant annually when it's already turning biennial? Maybe Miss Universe can be a Miss Belarus-style pageant that crowns girls in even years, if your opinion says so.mister_egzotica wrote:Philippinesupporter1998 wrote:You people are so funny overreacting on a date. I was as surprised as you are guys but come on. It's just a name and a number. It happened once and it wasn't a big deal in the end.If you want, we could all just imagine and pretend that it's still 2016.
Now, that's the right attitude! I woder if those who worry so much about the date are either so happy that they don’t have any bigger problems to worry about, or are just too neurotic with some sort of OCD.
They should just crown Pia's successor in Las Vegas. They could also crown Maxine so that it can be a three-peat.soledad wrote:Update from the Tourism secretary, interview by DZMM
They want it to be March or April but MUO wants it to be January.
The delegates will stay here for one month
Vigan, Palawan also part of the iterinary choices
Many are interested to fill in the other 6M needed
After the president's approval then it's official, Philippines will host Miss Universe 2016
We can title her Miss Universe ''made in 2016'' instead. Honestly, crowning girls from 2016 in 2017 is like saying, ''You can't reign in 2016, so you should reign in the year you are going to pass your crown.'' Dates are not a magical barrier; it's the year. No one cares if it will be held on December 31, but people would be disgusted if an annual event is not held in the year it follows. In the end, Miss Universe becomes biennial and people will wonder why a girl is being called Miss Universe 2016 and they know its 2017. People don't want to pretend anymore.mister_egzotica wrote:Mariana Erwin wrote:Well, the date, in my opinion, is a big deal because of her title. If she's Miss Universe 2016, she must be crowned in 2016, even if it's December 31, 2016. It's so awkward and awful to crown Miss Universe 2016 in January in the point that all the girls were chosen in 2016 so the title that they are competing for must be ''Miss Universe 2016''.mister_egzotica wrote:For me the date isn't really a big deal. All in all this is the competition between the girls chosen in 2016, and Miss Universe always reigns in the following year anyway. One month doesn't really make a difference. I love pageants in Asia. They always have a pretty good coverage. The 2008 edition in Nha Trang is one of my favourites. I'm pretty sure that the Philippines would be a great host as well.
The winner would be Miss Universe 2016, cause she would compete against national winners who were chosen and prepared in 2016. How simple is that? Some people pay too much attention to dates, as if it was some sort of a magical barrier. That's meaningless. Why one has to make such a big fuss around it? At the end of a day it's the show, the fun of following the contestants that matters. Look at the Academy Awards. They honour the best film of a given year, but it always takes place in February following year. Jeez, don't you guys have bigger problems to be concerned about?
And marketing the ''edition'' is a wrong idea. The days of saying, ''This is the (ordinal number) Miss Universe pageant'' is so 1998-2000. In short, Miss Universe won't be even crowned in the year she is in, which is so funny, awkward, and sad for the girl because she knows that she will pass her crown to someone else later in the year, and that she should've been crowned earlier. I think you just love Miss Universe being a biennial pageant. Nobody died, but everybody decided to enjoy it while being angry towards Trump and the MUO for making the dates f**ked up.princessleya wrote:Three things:
1) The date is meaningless. I see a lot of people here complaining about how ridiculous is to have Miss Universe 2016 in January 2017. Hello, this happened already last year and nobody died. And notice that Miss Universe is no longer marketing themselves using the year, but the "edition".
2) WME/IMG do not care about "tv ratings" as much as Trump did. Note that the nielsen rating system is obsolete, since TV on demand and digital are killing the traditional model. Ratings only measure in the States. IMG knows that the present/future of Miss Universe relies in interactivity and its social media presence, which embraces a much bigger audience during a whole year than the ratings they get for just one night.
3) Bringing Miss Universe to the Philippines is in large part an initiative of the Aranetas... meaning, FORGET "Mall of Asia Arena" or "UP Diliman" or Davao Convention Center or whatever... The final would be at the Araneta Smart Coliseum and the contestants for sure would stay the last days inside the Araneta Center in Quezon City. This is all business and the DOT needs to secure a way for expenses to be less, not more.
I hope they announce something official soon and January would be P E R F E C T for a lot of travellers to go and enjoy the Philippines.

I think it would be best if it was held in December 2017 (for the 2017 pageant).PH_BEAUTY wrote:Pia is going back to the Philippines very soon. She will meet with the new President on the 18th of July!
$20 million dollars is the proposed budget ( unconfirmed) . $ 12 million has already been pledged by the private sector. ( confirmed)
MUO proposed January 29
The Tourism chief wants it on May 2017
So, I'm sure we're looking at hosting the 2017 pageant. Sorry guys
