In 2000, Priyanka Chopra sashayed away $100,000 as prize money in Millennium Dome London for winning the 50th Miss World. According to the inflation calculator, the current Miss World must be receiving around $130,000 ?????

I remember how in 2000 it was constantly advertised that the winner of Miss World will win $100,000 but after that we never heard of the prize money ...

How about Miss Universe though... how much money does Trump pockets his winners?

Miss World no longer announces how much cash prize the winner is getting, we are not even sure if there are still any unlike before. Maybe they give monthly compensation.

Miss Universe does not have cash prize for the winner, but she gets a working contract with the Miss Universe Organization. US$2,000.00 monthly compensation and free wardrobe and lodging. Miss Universe have cash prizes when it was still organized by Madison Events (until 1995).

Miss Earth gets US$20,000 cash and contract with Carousel Organization.

Miss International gets a sum of Japanese Yen but is obliged to donate 20,000 Yen to the Miss International Charity. Weird right?

This has been discussed extensively before.

MW gets 100,000 pounds in cash, plus a wardrobe allowance of 30,000 pounds in addition to her living expenses, accommodation in London (an apartment in the Morley estate in the exclusive area of Dulwich, London) as well as allowances for makeup etc.
Miss Universe no longer gets a cash prize, she gets accommodation in NY (a shared apartment with Miss USA and Miss Teen USA at the Trump building in Riverside Drive in Manhattan) living allowance (for food etc.), it is around $2000 a month + the sponsors prizes -- Chi cosmetics, Sherri Hill dresses for appearances (which are not hers to keep), Chinese Laundry and the NY Film Academy scholarship.
ME gets $20,000 half upfront and half at the end of her reign.
MI no idea.

So I don't know where people get this fantastical sum of $250,000 for Miss Universe. It used to be high a long time ago, but Trump has essentially done away with prizes, arguing that the real prize is the prestige and the future opportunities that come from the title.

It's clear that Miss Universe gets a confidential monthly salary and no cash prize.

The Film Academy does not cost very much - it is $15,000 for the course. Also the tiara can't be more than $3,000 -- even the Mikimoto tiara that the girls got was valued at $20,000 -- and Mikimoto is a famous brand and uses pearls. The Diamond Nexus Lab is a low budget, department store maker of synthetic jewellery, so the tiara is probably only a fraction of the cost of the Mikimoto tiara.
I really don't know where people come up with these numbers from!

No you are! I had this out of the mouth of a former USA winner. The exact number may be a secret, but the general amount is not. In the early 2000s, the cash prize (which was designated as a salary -- MUO has to provide this, otherwise the girls are entitled to a significant portion of their appearance money) was $30,000. When this was eliminated, there was a lot of pushback from the national directors, and MUO told them that they would get something comparable, slightly less, as a monthly stipend to cover their expenses, so it is not that secret a bit of information.

No frikkin way! Trump is cheap. This was the prize for the winner of the Apprentice when it was the highest rated show on TV and a weekly one at that -- in FACT, the show that actually gave Trump the clout to extend the deal with NBC which was on the verge of dropping Miss Universe entirely. There is no way he would pay the winner of Miss Universe the same. With luck, Paula Shugart gets that much. The last disclosed salarly for Miss Universe was $30,000 and the show has been in a steady ratings drop since then.

the film academy scholarship is worth 100 grand i think. then the crown is valued at 200,000 dollars. the token which is the tiara is valued at 20,000 dollars. Nung Mikimoto pa to. Yung diamond nexus labs eh 120,000 dollars ata.

Kaya wala nang masyadong prestige ang Miss U kasi wala namang masyadong kwenta ang prizes compared sa gastos for preparations. Kahit yung title mismo, wala namang naging ultra successful former Miss Universe in recent years. Kahit si Lara Dutta, hindi man lang nasundan ang bollywood career ni Sushmita. Imagine a national director having to pay 60,000 in franchise fees tapos ganyan lang ang premyo. Miss Universe way back was really much better. Hanapin niyo yung article about pebbles de asis, naka indicate dun kung magkano yung prizes at that time 1987, ang laki laki na noon. Ngayon, siguro inflation adjusted, it would be around half million na siguro. Naalala ko tuloy yung 4 million worth of prizes daw ng Binibini. Eh yung 2 million doon face value nang insurance. Kailangan pa mamatay ng title holder para makuha yung half ng "premyo" niya. tsk. tsk. tsk.

I guess this would explain why beauty pageants are the thing of the past na for many countries. And I believe that the wild reaction Venus got from Miss Universe actually reminded Trump and Shugart na may bansa pa na sobrang aliw sa Miss Universe and since they didn't want to lose this rediscovered market, ayan na hand pick si Shamcey. So whether or not ginalingan niya sa prelims, sure shot siya sa top 15. I believe shamcey performed well naman. But I still feel na Venus top 5 placement was far more satisfying. I have this feeling na they favored shamcey kasi they believe that they could forge a hosting deal with the country. Tiba-tiba na naman ang sila from the hosting fees and sponsor fees. Miss Universe now is a mere business for Trump. The results could be tweaked for more revenues.
