DISCUSSION: Is India making a Big Comeback in Pageantry?

Postby Iknowbeauty » Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:40 pm

On Misso I have always seen India being referred to as powerhouse of the past and many expressing hope that one day India can reclaim its past glory which includes 4 Miss Worlds in a span of 7 years including a back to back in Miss World (1999-2000), & winning both Miss Universe and Miss World in the same year twice (1994 & 2000). After 2000 India was inactive in the Big 5 until Nicole Faria won Miss Earth in 2010.

4 years after Nicole Faria's win India won Miss Supranational 2014 & 2 years after that Miss Supranational 2016 and Mr World 2016 & this year India won its 6th Miss World crown thanks to Manushi Chhillar after waiting 17 years. Since all this happened in a span of 4 years I can't help, but be reminded of India in the 90's.

What do you think? Is India making a comeback and where do you see India going in the future? Will the cycle continue? Will India be dormant once again in the Big 5 or will it reclaim its earlier success?

I think the biggest factor right now revolves around the politics and management effectiveness between and within the various organizations holding the franchises of the major pageants. India will ALWAYS have a pool of great candidates to choose from, but these organizations need to get their act together if they want to send representatives that are as competitive as in years past.

Winning Miss World and Miss Supranational titles but still on a clapping streak at Miss Universe (3 straight years), Miss International (5 straight years) and Miss Earth (7 straight years). The national pageant org. must resolve these problems in order to fulfill to make a huge comeback for real.

What happened to Femina and Miss Earth Organization - Carousel? After the separation, India never place in this pageant.
If everyone can be a beauty queen, what is hardwork?

India is a powerhouse, that's for sure... I have always admired and loved Indian women...

I remember when I was new here (2015), the first thread I made was about the Most Beautiful Miss Universe semi-finalist from India (too bad it didn't get published because I was a newbie then). I did it with much effort then which I don't have this days... Hahaha...

Even in Miss Earth, the pageant I love the most, the most beautiful winner for me is an Indian, Nicole.

As far as I know, there are only two powerhouses in Asia...

INDIA AND PHILIPPINES.

The rest needs to work hard to be able to get there.

Thailand is almost there. Indonesia is getting there.

VIETNAM? Not much. Blame nguynguyen for that...

Jonathan, you need to be very careful with your accusations. The Philippines have been winning crowns from major and minor pageants since the 60's. Are you telling me that ALL the crowns that the country won from the very start were based on politics and money?! You need to elaborate your very serious and libelous statement, Jonathan. You are treading on thin ice. We can send your statements to the Philippine government so you and your family can be investigated. You need to remember that you are not only seriously accusing the titleholders but also the country. You are now way below the belt with your stupid game, fag.

How can Thailand be "almost there" when it has not even won a MW, MI, ME, or MS crown? It has only won 2 Miss Universe crowns. In regard to minor pageants, it has only won Miss Intercontinental and Miss Asia Pacific crowns. In order for a country to be a powerhouse, it has to perform well on both major and minor, alpha and beta pageants. If there'd be competition in Asia, then it must be The Philippines vs. India and not these self-declaring-powerhouse-wannabes.

After India won Miss World, I think your country is making a big comeback. However, there's something wrong with the person handling your Miss Universe franchise.

Re: Is India making a Big Comeback in Pageantry?

Postby pineal » Mon Dec 11, 2017 7:42 am

After the new direction that Miss India Org has taken under Natasha Grover, India's comeback is inevitable. After few hiccups initially they have finally come up with a good solid procedure for Femina Miss India which I am sure will go on to choose great candidates year after year. Miss Diva still needs to be sorted out and that's the reason India is not doing well at Miss Universe. Semifinalists are chosen from a very small pool as come compared to that for Miss World and they barely have any time to prepare. Since they dropped dropped MI and ME, initially other franchises organised pageants to send candidates but they were mostly marred by mismanagement and are just appointing candidates now.

I feel like we can produce good results at Miss Universe if Miss India Org encouraged training the potential candidates, like they did with vartika. There were so many worthy girls at Miss India this year who could've rocked Miss Universe with little polishing, not that Shraddha wasn't great, she also needed time. Other countries like Philippines and Venezuela send candidates who had been training their girls for at least 3-4 years and we send girls who are just taking a break from their studies or something to try their luck at Miss India. Miss Universe is like a sports competition, training is absolutely necessary.

Quality of candidates? Nah. Thailand only got lucky with Mareeya and Fahsai this year. The Asians are the only ones who consider Mareeya to be pretty but on the international scale, her face is very common especially when she doesn't have her make-up on. Come to Montreal or Toronto, or even here in NYC and you will see what I mean. As a matter of fact, she looks like New Yorker Amanda Freitag, the "Chopped" judge on Food Network who always gives these lifeless vibe and tired-looking eyes. I will never consider their Miss Intercontinental 2014 winner, Patraporn Wang, as a quality candidate. She didn't have the beauty, brains, body or appeal. I attempted countless times to look for that "sustained appeal", "stunning appeal", "sex appeal", or whatever kind of appeal she might have accidentally possessed but I totally failed. In regard to Q&A, she fumbled during the final question big time. I am still perplexed how she won over Cuba and The Philippines in that competition. In conclusion, Thailand is not "almost there" in powerhouse status. They are not even remotely close to it. They are just simply "not there". Period. The bubbles are not even there, my friend, so I refuse to say they're "bubbling under the powerhouse" from the bottom of my heart. I supported their two candidates this year at Miss Earth and Miss Universe but I came to find out that their candidates didn't have the interview skills to wow the audience. I want to support Thailand like how I always do with The Philippines but I am so ticked off by their claims that they are the "best in Asia" when they're simply not. They think that the word, "powerhouse", is a walk in the park towards a vacant lot and claim it their own just because they happened to have two "pretty" candidates this year who spoke English. Geesh! Give me a break.

Back then Q AND A was a big part of the whole criteria. IN THIS GENERATION, they would look for the total package, the X FACTOR. Beautiful face, beautiful body, sex appeal and brain unfortunately looking at the girls you are sending there is no way at the present.

Sepaking of Diya, I always wondered why india always prioritized miss asia pacific over miss international. Miss asia pacificas a very small pageant and relatively younger than miss internatirarest feat which is winning all Miss Universe, World and International in one year.. Also International is the only pageant they havent won so had they sent Diya to MI they would have won International 17 years ago..

onal. Miss international had more contestants, more prestigious and has more historical value.. had they sent diya in miss international India might have made the
