Michelle McLean is certainly the most successful Miss Namibia. In a span of five months Michelle made history and put Namibia on the map.
In December 1991 the very elegant Michelle became the first Namibian to enter the semis of Miss World and even better finished the contest as one of the Top 5 finalist. Her amazing stint in Miss World cemented her status as one of the top contenders for Miss Universe 1992. Michelle was one-third of "The Three Giants of Miss Universe 1992" who were considered to be the the successor of Lupita Jones. In fact the trio were Top 3 finisher in the Preliminaries. But it was Michelle who shined the most on the morning of May 8, 1992 in Bangkok. And in the end Michelle was chosen to be the keeper of the Miss Universe crown by Sarah Coventry for a whole year. Michelle became the first and so far the only Miss Universe from her country. As most of us know, Michelle was very instrumental in bringing the Miss Universe Pageant in African soil. For Michelle the grass was greener in Miss Universe.
Another former Miss Namibia who can say the grass was greener in Miss Universe is Ndapewa Alfons. Towering beauty Ndapewa, winner of Miss Namibia 2002, first represented her country in Miss World in December of 2002, sad to say her quest for the blue diamond crown ended too early. However it was a whole different story for Ndapewa in Miss Universe 2003 as she glided her way into the Top 10. Ndapewa became the second Namibian to place in Miss Universe after Michelle McLean. Ndapewa will always be remember as the very shy Miss Universe candidate with a beautiful smile and pair of legs.
On the other hand, for Miss Namibia 2006 Anna Svetlana the grass was greener in Miss World. Charming Anna was put through the Semifinals of Miss World 2006 after receiving the most number of online votes among the African candidates. Before her wonderful achievement In Miss World, two months earlier Anna was unsuccessful in Miss Universe 2006. Nonetheless Anna put an end to a 13 year drought of Namibia in Miss World.
Unlike the three queens mentioned above, Paulina Malulu already represented Namibia in a Big 5 Pageant, even before she won Miss Namibia in 2013. Paulina, the lady with a pearly white smile, was the first ever Miss Namibia in the history of Miss International. Paulina beat all odds in Miss International 2012, as she became the first African to reach the semis of Miss International since 2002. As the winner of Miss Namibia 2013, Paulina flew to Indonesia and Russia as the official entry of her country in both Miss World and Miss Universe. Unfortunately, she did not place in both pageants. For Paulina the grass was greener in Miss International.
