Hi ajsy0203,
Beauty pageant is not a new thing for Timor-Leste. Back in 1988, when Timor-Leste still part of Indonesia and called Timor-Timur, Sonia Dora Carrascalao representing Timor-Timur at one of the biggest cover girl competition in Indonesia at that time which is “Pemilihan Gadis Sampul”.
Sonia Dora Carrascalao
After our independence in 2002, there were some beauty competition events held.
In 2003, there were “Nono ho Nonoi Dili (Mister and Miss Dili)”, “Miss Tourism” held in 2013, as well as Transgender Beauty Competition.
In comparison with fashion as an example, fashion is more develop in Timor-Leste with many potential designers, modelling agency as well as potential male and female models.
Example of female model;
This is Tanya Talitha, one of the raising star in Timor-Leste modelling industry
at the Launching of Look Dili Modelling Agency
at Timor-Leste Government Event (walked for a local designer)
at Pesta Kesenian Bali, in Bali, Indonesia (walked for Timor-Leste designer)
Many fashion shows were held so far and two biggest fashion show in Timor-Leste were held last year with Sirene Sutton from Philippines, Kimmy Jayanti, Kelly Tandiono, Laura Muljadi, Raline Shah and Luna Maya from Indonesia walked the runway.
By looking at that, I can say that we, Timorese, do have passion for Beauty pageants and hopefully one day, we can send our delegate to participate in one of the big 5 pageants
This is just an introduction about how beauty pageant is in our country.
I will comeback with more details on Timor-Leste’s Potential to follow other Southeast Asia Country in Beauty Pageant .
Thank you.
